EDIT 22 April 2012
Some bugs fixed (a group of filters were not loading)
NEW LINK
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-pa ... z/download

shortly the main difference from the standard version are

1)It may run alongside the stable version
2) Support for Python plugin work out of the box
3) the Help is preinstalled
4) start in single window mode (you may change this if you prefer multi-windows)
4) Run perfectly from the main HD but may be used also as portable
5) More commune file types supported out of the box:
a few examples: PDF , OpenRaster,WebP,and for animation AVI and .SWF (flash )
6) most useful (and often hard not only to install but also to find ) plugin and script installed

This is far to be the full list but is just to give a idea

UFraw

( open and pre-edit photo in raw formats )

LensFun
(to correct lens distortion)

GMIC
(the last stable version released yesterday)

MathMap
(second only to gmic as best multifilter plugin and the only that allow to assemble several filters to create new ones ... without known anything of code)

UserFilter aka Filter Factory Convertor ( a multifilters plugin that may use a very diffuse type of PS filters... more then 1.000 are included, but not preinstalled,)

GAP
( suite of tools for animation)

MUCH MORE

7) all what above may be easily unistalled or replaced with newer version (When will arrive new versions.. as now is all up to date) and all the addon are well separated from the Gimp core

HOW TO START IT THE FIRST TIME :

Image

just unzip, everywhere you like EXCEPT that in "Program Files" and "Program Files(x86)"
and click on Gimp-2.8.0-RCI-1.exe

You may also RIGHT click, and chose from the menu that will pop out "send to desktop" to create a desktop shortcut

WHAT ELSE TO KNOW

All what added (plugin script , brush, pattern etc ) is kept clearly separated from the gimp core:
all addon are in the "_pref1" folder clearly visible at soon you open the zip

Inside that "_pref1" folder you will see folder with names as "plugin" "brush" "pattern" ...each of that folder contain a subfolder called "_preinstalled" ...
And if there it is something that you don't need then you may just remove from "_preinstalled" and if you want instead add something, you may place there and will be installed (obviously if compatible )

PS

1)Credit

Too sleepy to be able to give the proper credit to the many that well deserve

But at least i must credit Samj because i build this on the top of her 2.8 portable and i included many plugin she compiled for 64bit
(i.e GAP) and Partha (that compiled many other plugin here included)

2) if any problem with this version report here don't disturb the developers;
if is something i may fix i will fix asap, if is a bug to report to the dev i will do

Humm..the first time tooks a awful amount of time to load but once loaded i can't see nothing wrong

About the preference paths i used Samj 28 portable as core, and its architecture is a bit unusual (as example instead then a .2.8 folder has a equivalent "pref_1" folder" and use a Samj utility called Marenguin to guarantee portability.

But as far from script and plugin seems all right, i see it load far too much brushes i have to slim down the number of preinstalled brush

Few minutes ago i starting to use for edit a series of images ,till now i don't meet problem..well i was expecting be much more fast then the 32bit version but even if here i had 8GB Ram doesn't seems perceptibly faster

.

Graechan one group of script was not properly loaded (because that undocumented limit in the number of preference paths for folder) that may caused problem with some of your script

Fixed now on my nlocal copy ,i'm going on checking to see if i found something else to correct before replace the file on sourceforge

I didn't try yet Ufraw and lens fun

@Graechan
Yes it was something wrong with scripts & plugins preference paths, too much paths create a formatting error and then a group of plugins & script were not loaded.

Fixed now i am uploading now a fixed version
If you don't want download again, you may just move the content of a script Subfolder, in another and eliminate the empty subfolder and this is the point ,its preference path

Basically only 15 paths are supported, i added 1 more at the last minute and that was the culprit, and the solution is just eliminate 1 plugin preference path

For some reasons tonight the upload on Sourceforge is really slow, anyway a replaced file should be available shortly after this message

I just downloaded this version and gave it a try. I don't know why, but it won't open any .jpeg or .jpg files. The error console says they're unknown.
