A quiet forest scene illustration for some chapter in book II. Mara, the protagonist, learns to converse with the trees.

This is the finished version of the WIP that is already a couple of weeks old (this took me longer than I thought it would) viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4152

Image is link to bigger version. Can you find all the faces?

Very cool! Can't say I found all the faces; the trees were alive from what I could see.

The background is just amazing,
maybe there is something strange in the girl anatomy, more exactly in the way she move :
her right side is perfect but there is something wrong in the left side of her body (or maybe in her cloth, still only in the left side)

I really cannot focus exactly what i found wrong there, still i feel something that doesn't fit well

But that may be a problem with quite good images as this, a detail a bit more weak that in less good artworks would be unnoticed may pop out more
because everything else is very good and so the contrast become more strong

Maybe it's because there appears to be another light source to the left and behind the girl. The rocks on the right also look as if there is a light source to the left. Love the artwork.

Yes, that especially on the left leg... but also, even more ,the cloth:
looking again the cloth outline on the left is almost a perfect straight line, opposite to a more natural shape on the right side

Anyway, again is a quite good work

@Odinbc, @Molly

Thanks :)

There are 39 faces (see the sign posted on the tree - the paint is dark, but it gives the tally)

Glad you liked the background :) After not having seen the image for a couple days I would agree with you. I'm not sure what is wrong either. The way her hips are positioned seems to just result in the cloth falling that way - but perhaps it doesn't look curved enough. In any case, Griatch (in another thread) gave a good argument for why that may not even be the best pose, technicalities aside. I would be more inclined to redo Mara entirely (which wouldn't be too hard as she is on a separate layer) instead of fixing this version.

Thanks for the comments! There are two intended light sources - the end of the forest, and the beams up and to the left, through the trees.

I see the sign now. I just ignored that while looking before, I didn't know what it was. Yes I do see lots more faces now but would take forever to find 39.
Anyway, very well done and yes, I see where the girl could use some fixing. When I first looked at it, I thought she was facing out cuz of her knees but had to focus a while to make it look right. The different light directions were playing tricks.

Super job on the painting.
