2012 Photo-a-day

Hmm The EXIFs says:
Camera Maker: PENTAX Corporation
Camera Model: PENTAX K10D
Image Date: 2012-05-30 20:28:34 (no TZ)
Aperture: f/0.0
Exposure Time: 8.000 s
ISO equiv: 100
Exposure Bias: none
Metering Mode: Spot
Exposure: Manual
Exposure Mode: Auto Bracketing
White Balance: Manual
Flash Fired: No (enforced)
GPS Coordinate: undefined, undefined
Software: GIMP 2.6.7

How much of this is real (aperture/speed)?

The Exposure time is real at 8 seconds, but the aperture isn't :) Probably due to the combination of both 13mm and 31mm extension tubes between the old 50mm lens and camera body. The real setting on the lens was F22.

Oh, and typically, just after I publicly announce a milestone of 150 pictures, I checked and found I'd missed uploading a photo, so this is 151

Wow that looks like a rare species. Is it a rhododendron of some kind?

Very nice, they have a very nice contrast against the green.

I, unfortunately, also found something hidden at the edge of the woods...poison ivy. Thank goodness for super strength Ivy Dry!

A bit heavy on the post-processing perhaps? The red channel histogram is full-tilt on the right (this is one reason for the strange texture of the petals, the shadows make the color shift).

I did that edit by eye on a notebook with a poor LCD - and still can't see any visible quantization.

Here is another go with a bit more attention to the histogram, maxing without cropping and the tiniest S curve correction:

is that better to your eye? (I've also put a zip of the original raw file here if you want to try a hand at it)
