It came out a bit curly this time. I'll try and do a better one.

Ya but the one the gives the clearest and cleanest effect is...its the SF Will Lightning.scm file that breaks.

It breaks when it attemps to run solid noise. and i don't know why. maybe someone can help

the only other script that uses this method is sambrookes lightning gate and it works fine in 2.8

;;create the cloud that the lightning will be based on
  (plug-in-solid-noise 1 img cloud1 1 0 (rand 2100000000) detail instability frequency)

Tried to figure out how to make the lightning fork...it was semi-successful.

Graechan - thanks for the script

2-ton - you did pretty well. I've been trying that and finding it really difficult.

I like Will's script. It even gives you the option of a transparent background so you could probably add it to a photo.

This is with lightning, as I can not get lightning bolt to work in 2.8

That's cool. It moves more like real lightning.

I thought I would post here for anyone else interested. Just rightclick/save as.

My avatar is my editing of an existing one I found on the internet. The original I deleted because I didn't like it.
I am now experimenting with extra frames and time(ms).
The lower ones I have extended the height background so that I can lengthen the lightning bolt and will add another lightning bolt (leftside) as well. Too busy now to continue adding but I though you might want it to edit and add your own or when I complete I can let you know. I am not an artist so I will just be adding/lengthening lightning bolts with colorpicker/paint/clone.
