Hi there,

I'm happy to announce a new release of the G'MIC plug-in for GIMP, numbered 1.5.1.5.
The full Changelog is available here : http://www.flickr.com/groups/gmic/discu ... 888696326/

One thing I like in this version is the new 'Frame [painting]' filter, located in filter folder 'Arrays & frames'. It allows to add frames around your images, with a lot of different possibilities.
Some examples of what you can get with this single filter are illustrated below.

I hope you will enjoy this new version. I keep working hard on G'MIC to offer some nice additions. Note that most of the work is done on the internal G'MIC script engine, so the results are not always visible, but the project is still quite dynamic and is improving days after days.

Win32 and Linux versions are already available. I hope Sylvie will update the Win64 version as well soon, and Karsten will do the same for the Mac OSX version.

@Alonte : Yes, this is possible but this is a little bit complicated. But what do you want to do this ? Does the standard update procedure fail ?
If so, you have to download these following .gmic files :

http://mpkaro.helmholtz-muenchen.de/~karo/karos.gmic
http://www.greyc.ensicaen.fr/~dtschump/ronounours.gmic
http://www.tkfilter.bplaced.net/tomkeil.gmic
http://s406833247.websitehome.co.uk/gmic/photocomix.gmic
http://gentlemanbeggar.bplaced.net/gentlemanbeggar_gmic.gmic
http://www.saunalahti.fi/naggobot/naggobot.gmic
http://www.iain.bplaced.net/iain_fergusson.gmic
http://s406833247.websitehome.co.uk/gmic/garagecoder.gmic

Then, you must put these files in your %APPDATA folder (if you runs the plug-in on Windows).
It should do the trick.

Just a note:

I had to install: libpng-compat in Linux for GMIC to run. This lib wasn't installed as a dep with GIMP 2.8 or by default in Fedora 17.

Thanks again!

Who tested the version 2.9 (Linux), unless he knows that Gmic is not yet in the 16/32.
Backward compatibility?
Amazing - works with Gimp 2.4

Perhaps in future versions of GMIC 2.9 support will be correct.
If GMIC is already operate - it is starting to worry (16/32)!

Excellent David, and thanks again! :)
What's serial number for? Is that so you can remember the settings for certain frames?
If so that would be an excellent feature to add to all filters i think.

Gmic already support 16/32 bit
More exactly the command line support it well while in the plugin, that is usually limited by gimp to 8 bit, there are already a group of filter working at 16bit (in the experimental submenu ) and more could be done with the same principle

the only problem in case is bypass 8bit gimp bottleneck for load and save, gmic may do it if needed but from when David created that group of 16bit filters, also for a my request, they didn't get any attention and maybe also for that were no further addition to the first group

but you have not to woryy is not gmic that should be adapted to 16/32 bit but gimp, gmic and the gmic plugin are ready from long (even in case of the plugin some change should be done in case of a 16bit gimp..but not because the 16 or even 32bit are a problem for gmic.)

What can I say GMIC's Frame painting definately puts my script-fu picture-frame to shame sob! sob! but I'm happy to see GMIC progressing so much as all the new frames are awesome.
Congrats on the new release David.

Thanks Graechan.

@Rod : the Serial number argument for the 'Painting frame' filter corresponds to a number that uniquely defines the height-map of the frame profile. So that your frame shape does not change randomly each time you modify a parameter (and it also assures more or less that your final result is close to the computed preview).

If you want to remember your arguments for all other filters, use the 'Faves' instead :)

Also one final precision about the 16/32 bits problem. From the first release, G'MIC does all its internal computation considering 32bits float-values pixel values, even if your input images are only 8bits/channels.
So, the only thing we need to solve for the future of GIMP is : How to input/output the 16/32bits-valued data from GIMP to the G'MIC plug-in (and vice versa). There a need for a documented API from GIMP so that I can make the necessary changes.

Only played with the frame creator and I too like it David. As for support for 16/32bit GIMP 2.9, I would wait until the beta is 2.9.3 or 2.9.4 before worrying about that. lol

:)

Yes, you just need to put these files (keeping the filename) in your %APPDATA folder, and it should be OK.

Does anyone know if the 64bit version of this latest update has been compiled yet for Windows 7 (or similar)? Apparently, I'm using a beta version with a couple of bugs.
Thanks.

(SOLVED) I found the link to Sourceforge and have updated my G'mic.
