I got started fooling around with different kinds of lens designs and decided to try my hand at a Fresnel Lens.

That looks great! I guess it's wait for the Traffic Light tut to find out how you did it?

That's a real cool way to create a lens effect Draconian. I can't help but wonder if the Maze filter would be good for creating the line effects inside the lens? Perhaps for the rectangular type tail lights on a car or similar?

Probably not going to do a traffic light tut. All the info is in my Indicator Light tut if I ever get the final adjustments made and get it posted.

The Fresnel lens is only like 9 or 10 steps for the OFF condition and 4 more to get the ON condition. Heres the XCF if you want to take a look. I guess I should explain a couple of things. The gradient for the Hightlight layer is my "Metallic 4" gradient with Color to Alpha and using B0B2A5 for the color. The glossy layer you see at the top was from Glossy Stroke at 2 set to Fill.

The Gradient layer was FG to BG with colors reversed and shape set to Radial. The Gradient 2 layer was FG to Transparent, 45 degree stroke thru the center from bottom right to top left with the Black and then another 45 degree stroke from top left to bottom right with the White.

I used a light gray (919191) for my FG color and used my Four Bars Variable gradient to use the FG/BG colors. With a canvas of 400x400 and the Ellipse selection at 200x 200, I made a vertical stroke down from the center to 225 (or up from center to 175) with the gradient shape set to Radial and Repeat set to Triangular Wave. A little something I learned from one of Jolie's tuts.

I can't think of anything else that really need explaining and I lables most of the layers to reflect filters and settings. If you need any help just PM me. All the resources are in the attached zip.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Glad you liked it.

Rod - Can you show me what you mean?

Certainly -
1) Create a new document
2) Create a rounded rectangle and fill it with red.
3) Create another rounded rectangle layer - smaller rectangle, and fill with a foreground (White), to transparent gradient blend. Set the opacity to about 60%.
Image
4) re another image (File>New) so it opens a new window.
5) Use the Maze preset in GMIC (Patterns>Maze), to create a square maze. Default values should work fine.
Black bg and white maze wall lines. Use this image example for reference.
Image
6) Edit>Copy visible - Edit>Paste in first rectangle image as new layer.
7) Set the layer mode to screen. Set the opacity to 35% and Filters>Blur>Gaussian Blur about 11.
8) Turn off the white bg layer and do a new from visible.

9) Copy the new layer and go to Colors>Brightness and Contrast set to these values.

Now just delete all but the two top layers, and white bg layer.
Image

Now use the Filters>Animation>Combine bg script. Delete the white bg layer.
Save as animated PNG or GIF image with these settings

here are both.

I have also been playing around a bit . Here is a simple reflector. The filter used is the mosaic filter.

Thats sweet looking wbool63! Looks almost like the Voronoi triangle pattern I used in my upcomimg tut. Is that Rob A's "Mosaic Helper"?

Rod - I don't think I have ever seen a maze patterned lens before. Novel idea tho.
