I came across this video that explains how to use the new text tool and what it has to offer. I was quite impressed with it. New Gimp-2.8 text tools

Here is my first experience with the new text tool setup.

Nice work Molly. The text tool is the one thing in 2.8 that I am impressed with.

Well - having seen this I might upgrade to 2.8 after all. Maybe those sliders aren't so difficult.

That's excellent Molly. A well executed demonstration. I'm leaning heavily towards 2.8 now. :)

Wow, that was a really good tutorial video.

He didn't assume I know anything, which is good, because whatever little I once knew has flown the coop!

Gives me some confidence I may actually be able to figure out some of this stuff again. Seems like everything is written in another language again. :)

Nice Molly. Thanks for the example and pointing it out. I have not even tried doing text yet sounds exciting. :)

I was playing with the colors and realized there is a much larger range to work from in picking and choosing than before which is exciting. :)

@ Graechan..Oh thanks for pointing out the new standard brush tut. I was a bit perplexed about the slider on them. Now I can go check that out.
