An updated version of the seamless cloning tool has been released. It needs to be compiled. I am using Windows XP and my last try at compiling was a disaster. If anyone is adventurous and has a lot of extra time on their hands, they might be interested it trying it. The original tut made it look like a really nice tool. It can be found at:

Seamless cloning is just what the doctor ordered. I'm looking forward to it.

How's this different from sample merge (new feature in 2.8)? :)

Sample merge is available for all tools that use sampling in 2.6 and samples from all layers as opposed to just the active layer. This is different from seamless cloning.

Again, I'm a filter guy and usually use these tools for cleanup so I only recently delved into the other cool features of the Clone (and heal) tools and only first noticed sample merge in 2.8. So I'm still a novice when it comes to hands on (as opposed to filter) work in GIMP. lol

Painter I'm not; lazy I am so that means I still have more fractions to learn in GIMP. Enjoy discovering new features still after over a decade using my crutch. Looking forward to seamless clone when it gets released. I already submitted a request for brush wrap a while back but doubt they would ever release this as a feature (i.e., when a brush hit's the edge of the canvas, it will auto-wrap to the opposite edge; this would make creating seamless textures childs play). Still, if seamless clone is similar to this, then I would be happy. :)

Brush Wrap is an excellent idea. Let's hope we see it in the future. :)

Wrap !
Wrap and Mirror !

Mirror stroke should be not too hard to implement

i.e
1)mark the (alas still hypothetical ) Mirror Strokes box
2) set a guide (now in 2.8 they should even be obliques ) to be used as mirror axis
3 )just paint

Alexia emailed me a while back and told me that I'm not the only one who wants this feature. The biggest thing at that time was to get 2.8 released of course. Maybe they can get this feature added soon now that the 2.8 hurdle has been overcome; we shall see. Can you image having such a feature; whether painting with brush or using a clone (more preferrable for certain textures) having this feature would, again, make my seamless texture techniques obsolete overnight (maybe even me too; lol). But, I had this exchange over a year ago and am not in the mood to re-open it, but hopefully it will get some attention. I remember my wish for an external launch feature which I requested at GIMPTalk back in 2009 which finally, thanks to RobA, came into being a few years later (shellout). lol

:)

Perhaps Partha will tackle this and compile a separate fork for it.Like the Foreground select Tool fork. :)
I would love to try it out after seeing the previews on YouTube a while back.

Thank you Molly and Rod for your interest in the tool! Hopefully this will encourage Partha to do his magic.

The best way to contact Partha is through his contact page on his website.Send him a message and if he isn't busy or traveling he may tackle it. :)
