Thank you. I'd been thinking how to make a double-sided coin and what to put on it. Saw your avatar and

Hail Greg! Image

Minting the coin gave me some other ideas about G'MIC. The image I started with was 100x100. In G'MIC I enlarged it to 200x200. G'MIC does a very commendable job of enlarging. I think some of the principles there could be very useful for enlarging images.

Perhaps someone who knows Dave could ask him.

G'MIC amazes me again!!!
The animated 3D extrusion is now built into G'MIC!!! But you must use a single layer. It animated both layers in my test, rather than using my color layer the normal way. I'll let him know about the bug.

G'MIC > Sequences > 3d extrusion

That works very nicely. The "bump" in the animation I don't understand but this is just show and tell. When it finished, I set the still intact color layer to multiply, moved it to the bottom and overlayed it on all layers, and deleted the bottom layer.

Looks like I could have used a little smoothing and reversed the frames, too.

I downloaded the animation and it looks like the depth was thicker (deeper?) at the beginning and narrower at the end. The bump is when it gets wide again. When you run the animated 3D extrusion, make sure the depth is the same for both.

Here is my latest. I created an empty bottom layer, filled it with a homemade pattern and set it to burn mode.
Then I ran Filters > Animation > Overlay-Background. That gave me the color to the text.
FinallyI lightened the gradient on the bottom layer and ran Filters > Animation > Combine-background.

I don't understand what you mean. The depth setting should remain the same for all layers. It seems like the first frame is the offender. I've tried a couple others and I get the same thing.

I think he means there is a starting perimeter and an ending perimeter and the depth should be set the same on both.

There is a starting depth and an ending depth. Mine comes up as 10 and 10 by default.

There should be the ability to make the Y angle in the ending parameters a negative value. If you could make it -350 it would turn the other direction; X angle = 0.

With those settings you don't have any duplicate frames. The default 360 in the Y angle setting makes a duplicate in the layer stack.

Thanks Greg. I think we posted at the same time on the depth settings. I had missed the Ending Parameters entirely. ;)

There are two ways to turn the opposite direction.
Set starting Y-Angle to 350 and ending Y-Angle to 0 will do it, as will Layer > Stack > Reverse Layer Order. Either will work

I know how to do reverse layer stack but didn't think of reversing the angle settings. Brilliant!

My G'MIC animations don't have fluid movement. They have some delay even when I manually enter the speed on each layer.

If you make the first y setting 0, and the other one 350, you shouldn't have any delays. You can also delete the top or bottom layer to get rid of the pause.
