I tried using Mathmap to render a dart board, but I get an error message saying mathmap can't find libfftw3-3.dll. I checked my plugins directory (...Tony\gimp-2.8\plug-ins) and libfftw3-3.dll is in there.

I'm using Partha's version modified to use a normal user's gimp directory (...Tony\gimp-2.8\plug-ins)

What am I doing wrong?

I use Vista, Gimp 2.8 from Gimp.org.
C:\Program Files\GIMP 2

Here's where MathMap is,
C:\Users\Odin\.gimp-2.8\mathmap\

and libfftw3-3.dll.

What is a modified version?
Do you use a 32-bit ? 64-bit ? Portable 32-bit ? Portable 64-bit ?
Please note there are 32 and 64 bits "libfftw3-3.dll". MathMap must be associated with a 32-bit.
Important Note: On a 64-bit portable version of GIMP you can have plug-ins 32 and 64 bit (Caution when installing).

I was going to ask the same thing...what did you modify?

I believe he uses a hack to make the portable use the normal user/.gimp directory instead then pref_1 or anyway a internal folder
(i remember someone asking for a similar hack time ago )

MM is a bit complex to install, especially using the old installer (i found much more simple with zipped version ) also because the installer had a bug (apparently allow to be pointed in a custom chosen folder, but in practice will install anyway in the default place, that in case of gimp 2.8 is a wrong place.

anyway
1) mathmap contain a exe and some dll that should all go in the plugin folder ...but here is better you create a new folder in "32" folder, called plugin and add its path in gimp edit/preferences/folder/plug-ins
The user directory/plugin may be a BAD idea, there are too much chance to have a 64bit version of the same dll, and so to create conflicts
2) last in Mathmap you will found also a MM folder that go just in User/.gimp (NOT in a subfolder there, just inside the main .gimp folder )

Sorry I didn't get back earlier. I originally installed a 64-bit portable version that used elements from both Partha and Sourceforge (got the link from this board.) Samj gave me a custom startup .bat file that made a "normal" user folder in C:\Users\Tony\gimp-2.8. This allowed me to add new brushes and stuff without messing with the program folder (which I keep in the programs folder Art Tools)

When Partha's 2.8.1 version was ready, I removed the old 2.8 version--deleted it from Art Tools--and installed Partha's 64-bit portable, adding only Samj's batch file to run it. Other than the problem with Mathmap, it runs like a dream.

I do have two paths to plugins: one to my .gimp-2.8 file and one in the GIMP-2.8\lib file. None refer to pref_1.

EDIT: I just checked my GIMP install. Mathmap was not pre-installed with my GIMP, neither in \lib or \pref-1, so there can't be a conflicting install, can there?

OK, downloaded the .zip files from Samj. Put the 32-bit libfftw3-3.dll into my GIMP-2.8\32\bin folder. Mathmap works now:

The possible conflict was not with other version of MM but with other different plugins that may include lilbfftw3-3.dll but at 64bit

The 32 folder is there just to eliminate similar problems with 32bit plugin
