Didn't Fencepost make a script that automatically added background layers to your animation layers?

And there is another one to overlay the background. I don't remember the actual script name. I went looking in my scripts and didn't see it.

The two functions are found at
Filters > Animation > Overlay-Background
and
Filters > Animation > Combine-background.

The combine bg script has both options: combine or overlay.

i was so busy today but i see a lot of things happened here in the while... starting from the first animation of PhotoMaster and of O...and then the new animation filter in gmic...

@PhotoMaster @O But seems that doing the first tentatives of animation manually theyou didn't notice a combination that speed a lot animation of any NOT animated Gmic filter...well is also my secret weapon that i convinced time ago David to add to the output option

But since seems very few noticed and may interest also other i will not tell you here :evilgrin

but i post the tip now as Gmic Animation Tip

I didn't see it, but I am guessing there is an output to layer or new image? I'll have to open up Gimp, not that this is a problem. Gimp is open almost constantly!

Maybe i must add some screenshoot and example to clear the point ?

But maybe if you open a image and gmic and follow my indications
(set output "new layer"-chose setting for frame 1--click "apply" instead then ok
---chose setting for frame 2--click "apply" instead then ok---)
you will immediatly got the point;

No more need to copy paste no more need of CTRL-Z...no more need to reload gmic at each frame..

I'm not getting it. I tried in a couple outputs to see what would happen but didn't get an animation. Screenshot would be nice.

I got it to work, sort of. I had to set my input to "All Visible" (Yellow Highlight) and my output to "New Layer(s)" (Green Highlight). I set my parameters as shown, and clicked "Apply" instead of "OK". Once the new layer was created, I made the new layer invisible (clicked the eye in the layers palette) and then changed my Y-Angle. Then I clicked "Apply" again and repeated.

Turning off the visibility of each new layer, is required, or the next render gets gooped up. Also the preview shows it gooped up until you change the Y-Angle each time.

I did it your way, Greg. Worked well. I did this one using increments of 30 degrees for Y to save time.

Sure if the input is "all layer" or "all visible layers

But with standard input "Active layer" that is not needed

Same if you start with 2 layer (as example for 3D lathe but that will take time and require much patience because the filter is slow ) with the active on top, and you chose as input " active and below "

@ O i saw your reply there...but we are doing a lot of crossposting is better i copy the message here too

@O , @PhotoMaster

you are very close you get it but for the input option

i never thought you could chose "all layers" or all visible layers" as input option...i can't see why use them in this case

My tip work very well :

1 with the standard option (active layer) as example to animate the bw-stencil filter, or even a frame filter

2 ) for filters that require 2 layers as input (as 3d lathe...but is a slow filter for each frame you will have to wait a lot ) put active layer above, the other below and as input chose
"active and below"

Or if you prefer "all invisible layer" taking care at beginning to make invisible the layer(s)you want use as input and only them

Basically with this 3 options the input used never change doesn't matter how much new layers you create
PS
Works even with "all invisible layer" option obviously if you murst first set as invisible the layer(s) and only those layersthat you want use as input,

"Active and above" and "Active and below", don't work on mine for any filters. I get a plain blank image if I use them. When I do "3D extrusion" and "3D lathing", I have to use either "all layers" or "all visible layers".
