Does anybody know of an open source or real cheap application to batch convert vectors to vectors. Note that I'm not asking about vector to bitmap, which seems to be what most people want, but vector to vector.

I've been doing a lot with them as of late because they make such good design elements but it seems like the vast majority are in EPS or AI. Inkscape can't see EPS although it can save them and can only open AI files above V9. Although I can open both with Xara Extreme I neither want to have to use that but I have to do each one individually. I have Uniconverter, made by the Inkscape people but it neither batch processes and seems to fail a lot. Plus it seems that the Xara people through arrogance doesn't play well with SVG formats. I'd like, if it was a perfect world, to be able to batch convert AI, EPS, and WMF to either SVG or WMF.

Ghostscript, which GIMP uses for handling PDF, AI, and EPS files (and for printing), is available as a standalone program.

Yes but I don't think it does batch processing, does it?

If you're running GNU/Linux or OS X then batch processing with a command is trivial; however, if you are using a Microsoft operating system, you might have to resort to using a third-party front-end such as Ghostfriend.

GSview, another front-end for Ghostscript in Windows.

They claim XnConvert supports 500 image formats.

ed.
I haven't tried it so I don't know if it will work for you, better check this first.
How to display vector formats like PDF, AI,...? GhostScript!

I tried the latest version and it won't do vectors BUT, I found that it will batch convert any bitmap to gimp pat file so that will be worth remembering. I attached a doodle that I batch converted with several other ones.
