Welcome to the "other side" of two major Linux camps. :hehe

Grab gnome-tweak-tool. I think you'll find that handy.

This is an excellent guide to help you complete your Fedora installation..

http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f17.html

Out of habit, I don't sudo so I just ignore that bit. You might like to use it tho.

Thanks for the info Tux.
I have another question.I couldn't figure out how to shut-down the computer from the Fedora screen, so i used "Suspend" instead. Well that put my computer into a state of instant hibernation and i couldn't get the suspend off. :lol
So i unplugged the computer and plugged it back in and that took it out of hibernation mode.
But, now i can not set my monitor resolution to 1440x900 as it isn't recognizing my Acer monitor anymore.
My question is how on Earth do you get the computer out of "Suspend" mode once you choose this option in Fedora?
I tried every key on the keyboard, but alas nothing worked. :)
Also how do you shut down through Fedora?

I don't know anything about suspend mode in F17 Rod but in a normal suspend to ram operation, the suspend option changes to a resume option. A reboot would restore everything back to normal and shouldn't affect your supported video modes.

You can bring up the power off/restart menu by hitting ctrl-alt-del on the desktop or as Molly mentioned, from the login screen. I normally use a Cairo Dock addon that brings up a restart/power off menu.

It seems if you could boot to 1440x900 once, you could do it again, unless something changed in relation to the video drivers. 1440 x 900 is the resolution I use. You can check "displays" under system settings to see which modes are available. If everything is working properly, the display will pass a list of the supported video modes to the video driver, which are then displayed under system settings/display.

What model of video card do you use? (lspci from terminal will list it)

True YAFU, :peng
Hey Rod,
I know one app you will be sure to get and that is the one Tux mentioned, Cario Dock, it is so great. Your log in-out also comes with that and you can add all your toys besides what I see on some of your screen shots, lol :pengy

Looks like i will have to update my video driver. As the display dialog only shows 800x600 and 1280x768 possible resolution settings.

Thanks for all your help guys. :)

I forgot to mention that you can hover the mouse over the suspend button and hit the "alt" key to toggle to the Power Off option.

Welcome to the intuitive Gnome3 interface. :lol

Fire away on the questions. :pengy

Thanks for the welcome!

When i have a few questions i will fire them at you all.
Currently i am installing WINE so i can use my software i purchased for Windows.

I have Gimp-2.8 and Inkscape already installed. (add remove programs is awesome)
I installed Fedora 17 and all the updates on my F drive.
I didn't mount the C drive so maybe i can still compile for windows users. :)

Now i need Notepad ++ for script writing, and i think im all set for now.

I am loving the OS so far though.

In Fedora I use Gedit which is a notepad, works great. I think it is one of the defaults but if not just type yum install gedit. in root

In the place of Word I use Libre Office write and I use Libre office impress which you will find in add and remove or I use Yum imstall.

I believe it's su - (including the space and hyphen) then press enter. You will then be asked for root's password. Type it in then enter. Then yum install software name. Type exit to exit root then exit again to exit terminal.

open your terminal, type su - that is su space -
you are now in root.
now type yum install gedit or whatever you want to install

I forgot to mention after you type su - it will ask for your root password, not your log in one.

After your install is finished, type exit enter then exit enter to get out of terminal.

I have no idea about programming. But in GNU/Linux many people use KDE "Kate" text editor. The problem is that if you're not using KDE, it will install all necessary KDE libraries when installing Kate. Except for that, you can install Kate.
