On Thursday, Microsoft revealed their new Windows logo, to mixed reviews.

For me, the logo is overly plain and flat, so I added some highlights and shadows to give it more depth and excitement.

A new logo won't help this company Saul. lol

Yeah, saw a blurg of this change at another website where I frequent, but didn't even bother to click the link. Sad what they did to themselves. A few there said Paul Allen has to go; I agree. Never thought I would say I miss Bill Gates and the helm. lol

I agree Lyle. This reminds me of Dumb and Dumber. I like the old logo just fine and IMO this is a big mistake. The version I like best looks like glass with reflections and shadows. I grabbed this from a surfing session I did a few days ago.

That the official logo ?
Did Microsoft made a contest as " you don't need to be a artist or a graphic designer to create the new Microsoft logo" and chose that from the worse proposal ?

Or they compensate the artist only with a free copy of World so the artst took his revenge ?

for sure Saulgoode version look much nicer
and that from Draconian too

I think the one Drac posted is my very favorite, even though it is Windows. I love the glass transparency it has.
Saulgoode, nice job on that flat logo, maybe Bill should hire you. lol

i like the 3D effect saulgoode added, but for me the real problem are the colors: they look tired...
but maybe this is all part of the new concept and works well in context

the old logo was good, especially the strong colors, but it doesnt look fresh anymore

More lameness from Microsoft. :2thd

Saul, I like yours better, especially the different angles of the shadows, making the whole thing an impossibility. It's perfect for Microsoft. :hehe

...When arguing about aesthetics of logotypes, I was once told that a "good" logo is not necessarily a "beautiful" logo, a "good" logo is something you'll remember. ;) Of course, I don't know if this wannabe statement is valid but I think it reveals something about how logotypes may work (in a mass market world).

Well, maybe Windows will bite the dust and Linux will emerge as king.

There's a link at the top for the original photo I started with.
Here's the broken logo I made.

Well a good logo is simple. The simpler the better.
So the new Windows logo tells me Windows is simple.
I have to agree with Tux. I like Sauls version better also. :)
