Sorry....I have downloaded the Windows 64 bit zip file which does not have installer. Can you please explain how I install it. I have tried clicking on the exe file but nothing happens.

There is a readme file included that should help. Open "lisez-moi.html" also included for more information and a diagram.

I cannot open readme file....will have a look at "lisez-moi.html" thanks.

Bonjour,

@Deblk

Copy and paste (files & folder are in ...\gmic_gimp_plugin) :

- gmic_gimp.exe
- libfftw3-3.dll
- libgcc_s_sjlj-1.dll
- libpng15-15.dll
- libstdc++-6.dll
- pthreadGC2.dll
- _gmic (folder)

in a Gimp plug-ins folder.

Thanks SamJ although am now a little confused. I managed to open the Readme file and it said as follows:

To install the G'MIC
plug-in for GIMP, you have to copy the file 'gmic_gimp' (Unix) or
'gmic_gimp.exe' (Windows) to the plug-in folder of your GIMP installation.

This folder is usually located at :

- on Windows : 'C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.x\lib\gimp\2.0\plugins\'

so I only copied 'gmic_gimp.exe'...did not say anything else about those other files/folders. Is that correct? Thanks

no all the files

it may happen as happened to Erisian that one of that dll (more luckily libstdc++-6.dll ) is already in gimp because included in other plugins you installed previously or in some customized gimp build

But no much to worry about, except if you get a similar message to Erisian's (..in that case just remove the dll indicated in the message will fix)

So all the files (and the _gmic subfolder ) are part of gmic without will not work

I also have this-'gmic_in_script.scm' should I copy that to my Scripts folder?

I saw that one in the 64 bit bundle as well. I may be wrong but I don't think you need, 'gmic_in_script.scm'. I would lean towards going with samj's list in red.

Thanks for the Plug in.

Just a query really, I'm using ubuntu 12.04 and download gimp via the software centre, so Gmic came packaged with Gimp.

I can get it to work pasting to my plugin folder in my home file but if I try to post it to this location

usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/

It asks if I would like to replace exiting file, I click yes, but then it fails telling me Permission is Denied. I also can't see any way to delete the exiting file first.

Just curious why this should be, as I got it to work the other way.

Two ways to bypass the default install :

- Replace the old plug-in binary, as you did (but as it is installed on a system folder, you need root privileges to replace it). Open a shell, and type :
cd folder_where_gmic_gimp_is_located/
sudo cp gmic_gimp /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/

or

- Put the new plug-in binary in your personal folder. It will have priority to the installed one. Copy 'gmic_gimp' into your (hidden) folder : /home/your_login/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/

And run GIMP. The latest version should be available then.

I install G'MIC every time I install GIMP on any platform.

GIMP without G'MIC is truly crippled

I have G'MIC installed now in Ubuntu 12.04, Mint 13 Maya, and Mint 13 KDE -- all Gimp 2.8

... via PPA

ppa:ferramroberto/gimp

1.5.0.1 :(

Now I see adding to Gimp 2.8 is linux painless. Thanks for that. I plan to use Synaptic to remove gimp-gmic without removing user created data. Hopefully variations and preferences will not be fed to the null.

While I have your ear.. what would you suggest to either create new blend modes, or insert such into Gimp "layers palette" with- or without plug-ins/addons?

normally plug-ins appear once added even while gimp is running else Script-Fu refresh. It would seem that PPA for G'MIC now removed will require :sniffle: restarting GIMP

Image

If only there was a save everything as is, saving files to temporary places for a nice, clean, quick GIMP-restart.

oh noes.

G'MIC is MIA

gmic_gimp_linux32.zip extracted to

~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/gmic_gimp_linux32

allow execute

Good news, /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/gmic_gimp has become existentially challenged!

gimp: preferences: folders: plug-ins: has

~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/

above

/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/

G'MIC continues to be MIA :(

hmmmm let's re-read that readme.

Last ditch I moved gmic_gimp from local installation directory to global installation directory.

I haz joy, but also confuzzledness. Why will G'MIC not appear when placed in local installation directory??

i believe that script broken...and it is more a template, showing how use script fu to call gimp , that a script doing something useful in itself.

In fewer word if you don't plan to wrote script fu you don't need it (and anyway may be broken by 2.8 update)

The subfolder...i believe you forgot the _gmic subfolder
Anyway next time launch gimp from terminal with

gimp --verbose

and check the console output when loading

Thanks for that hint. My subsequent reply highlighted that G'MIC ceased existentially challenged state, but would only appear if added globally but not locally :( Why might that happen?
