I put selection bevel.py into the 'my name' python folder and restarted gimp, but it doesn't show up. So
I am going to try to use the fu bevel and emboss instead.

OK, OK. Here ya go, Molly. I want you to know my wife has two days off and you just got me in hot water for fooling around on the computer too much. :hoh

For some reason I had trouble with this particular font and had to lower the opacity of the bevel layer to 30% and both the others to 20%. I added a slight shadow effect all around the edges at a low opacity to make the lighting look right. I added the drop shadow for a more dramatic effect similar to one of the other glass tuts.

Still, I like the process in this tut better than some of the other tuts I've seen. Thanks Erisian!

Molly, I have a mac, it that makes any difference. I just put the py file into the python folder, am I supposed to put it in the python console first??? I have never done that, maybe that's why py's never seem to work on my mcgimp??? lol Anyhoo...here is how mine came out using the s-fu bevel and emboss, and trying to use similar settings.

I'm using ubuntu and initially tried to put it into the python console, then was told I needed to copy and paste it to a text editor and save it as a .py file, then place it into my gimp plugin folder.
it worked but wether its the same for a mac I don't know.

You are right 2-ton, it may be different for Mac. There seems to be more mac users here now so one of them can probably help you. I know in Fedora you have to allow permissions for plug-ins. to allow them to execute.

He4rty, that is exactly what I did with the script, but it is not showing up.
and yes, I do hope a mac user will have the secret formula to share!

2-Ton. Do you have a plugins folder other than the python folder. In Windows and Linux, they just go in there. Maybe it's worth a try. Your image came out nicely anyway, so did yours Drac. he4rty - I love yours with the light beams.

In Windows, plugins are usually EXE but it's also where .Py plugins go. Have you tried putting it in there yet?

thanks molly, its very much like a "shock-metal" logo-thing, for bands like Wasp, Twisted Sister or Sigue Sigue Sputnik :hehe

i have a question for Erisian:
do you have a deeper knowledge of layermodes or was this all trial and error ?

i like playing around with layermodes a lot, but i have very little understanding what a certain mode is supposed to do

tried to research a bit on that topic (and found some interesting links), but im not much wiser

Esper. I have a kind of intuitive understanding of some of the layer modes from observation and practice but I couldn't tell you anything technical. There is always some trial and error involved.

With G'MIC's Rodilius filter on a duplicate layer in overlay mode.
