fire paisleys, anyone? i made this after a tutorial and then i wanted to make a wallpaper with it but i have tried so many layouts and none of them look good :(. in the end i just made a nice picture of it instead, with vague flames in the background.

its beautiful ! :luvstruck

and it looks like its really on fire!

i wish the pattern was a bit bigger but apart from that its perfect

what exactly didnt work with the layout of your wallpaper ? what did you try ?
i think a good wallpaper needs space to breathe, so i wouldnt really add much
just more blackness with a hint of fire or any other texture

ah, but you don't seem to need much to get your imagination going, so that's no big achievement on my part:).

esper: thanks!

my thoughts exactly! but i've tried just an empty black background, which was too empty and i like a little framing, so i usually do something to the corners. i tried making a space behind the paisley instead of the plain black but it took too much attention from my paisley even if i turned it down. then i used plain black with the same flame corners i used in this picture and that looks good in the small picture but the flames looked somehow unmotivated in the wallpaper format. then i tried some different types of straight line corners (always just two corners) with more or less toned down fire or glow effects to them and none of them looked good together with the paisley. i tried using the pattern inside the paisley as a corner gradient but that stole attention as well. seems i'e written a whole novel here, but i needed to complain a bit!

esper: thanks for taking the time :) ! hmm, i think i could do something with that. the red isn't perfect with the paisley, but i could play with it and see what happens.
erisian: :wow that's one delicious paisley! :hi5 looks like a paisley made out of a sliver of the moon, how lovely is that? would you tell how you made it, please?

That's nice AnMal.

As for mine, I will try to remember.

The background was made using both solid noise clouds and plasma desaturated and colorized and a red-transparent gradient on top. I played with layer modes but can't remember which I used.

The paisley was made with paths converted to selections on different layers and flood filled. The top two layers were blurred. The bottom paisley was duplicated, desaturated and bevelled and put in either overlay or grain merge mode. The bottom paisley was also used to make the glow layer.

Hope this helps.
