i made a few windows icons in the past:

you choose a picture you like, scale it to approx 60x60px and then save it as .ico
(i did that in xnview)

then make a shortcut of yout file to the desktop, right click properties and change the icon

Bonjour,

For a file with an icon you must create an executable and add an icon.

ResHacker.exe is the tool that can easily add icon.

I think there is a size limit on windows icons, 64x64 pix for XP & 256x256 pix for Vista/Win7

I would stick to ico format, make your icon.

right click on the existing icon, select properties at the bottom of the dialog.
select the shortcut tab & change icon
browse for your new icon & ok
Ok again for change icon and finally apply in the properties dialog.

I can never remember this so some screen shots I took along the way.

Bonjour,

@Photocomix

Here future launchers for Gimp (with icon and change splash) that I will use for the next version of Gimp.
You can use and modify for your version of GIMP with lots of plug-ins.
(extract the archive in the directory of maringouin.exe)

Bonjour,

@PhotoComix

Here is an archive with all launchers (format .exe) and sources.

Extract the archive in the directory of maringouin.exe and erase all .bat files
(In the same directory you must have : maringouin_2_8.exe , PC-LAB_EN.exe , Gimp_EN.exe , etc.)

You can edit the source and compile with gcc 32 bits.
You can easily change the icons of .exe files with ResHacker.exe
Launchers for the "PhotoComix option" are included.
The "splash" vary depending launchers.

@Samj
My storage disk went dead and i had there the copy of your previous zips

I see you remove them replacing with a new zip if i understand well the files

1 will allow to start in the "Basic" Configuration, in several different languages or using the OS locale,
2 this configuration will load with the standard splash

that is fine..more ten fine perfect !
But i have less clear how to modify that to call the "Full Extra" configuration, and where place a different splash to be loaded

I mean i believe i could compile the bat files i am using now , actually i have only 2 for English and for the computer language but maybe to get the others i just need to replace "en" with "nl" "es" etc.

and then use res hacker to assign the second icon

Or you was intending something else ?

I never did but seems doable, but what about the second splash ? where i should place it ?

Bonjour,

@PhotoComix

Modify and compile the C source files (xxxx.c)
I do not know what is the "Full Extra".
If you give me the splash image, your icon 64*64 pixels , the .bat files corresponding to "Full Extra," I will create sources and will compile.

Edit :
What is "No Extra" ? (Give me plash image, your icon 64*64 pixels , the .bat files corresponding to ""No Extra")

You can delete "PhotoComix.exe" (GIMP-PC_Lab.2_8_2-64bits)
