If it's a train and not a line you want to bend, the new Cage Transform tool Image may be what you need.

Here is a link to a video that shows a little about how to use the tool.

After you have watched the video so you know a bit about how to do it, make a copy of your train as an xcf file. Then work on a copy. I looked in the gimp manual 2.8 version and the cage transform tool is not addressed. :hoh

I worked with this toy train and I think you can probably make yours fly. Here is the original train along with the transformed one. There were some artifacts of the original train below the transformed one that needed to be deleted. This is the first time I have used the cage transform tool for anything specific.

Filters>Distort>Curve Bend may work for you also.

No. Do not depend upon a program to do that for you. Back up your files.

If the upgrade preserves them, hooray. If not, you've lost them.

Since you have Windows XP, you must have SP3 for Gimp 2.8. Click the Gimp Download image link in my signature and scroll down to, Show Other Downloads and click the link, then scroll down to Gimp for Windows.

SP3 is Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. Here is a link to MS support and info about SP3.

If you need more info, a Windows user will probably be more helpful.

If you had WindowsXP automatically updated, you may already have it.

The curve bend tool will work on straight lined objects if you use both bottom and top curve lines to do it.
Both the top and bottom have to be pretty close or exactly aligned together.
It is very touchy. I would also autocrop the layer before bending.

If you want to envelope text with it you need to bring the top line up and the bottom line down.
Are you bending a train image?

Hi Rod,
Thank You for showing me what to do with the bend curve.
It must be very touchy because i tried soooo many times, and I couldn't get it right.
I am not bending a train,i am trying to work on a pic that has Santa's sleigh with the reindeers,
but the pic is a frontal pic,and I want to show the 2 front deers starting to fly up while the others
and the sleigh of course are still sliding in the snow before takeoff

well for starters, i think ttis is a pretty tough picture you choose
also, you are aware that the deer and santa/the sled have already taken off ?
(it took me a few minutes to notice, thats why im asking)

i think this picture has one big advantage: there is lots of contrast because of the whiteness of the snow and the darker deer/sled

so you could try to render it with a layermask, but you´d have to do it in parts and combine them in the end

on one layer you render most of the image with a white layermask
on another, you render the antlers that are in the shadow with a path
next you render the two front deer and rotate them

then you recreate the snow with solid noise and use parts of the image for the bushes/trees

does that make sense ?
