I saw an effect done with PS but the tut was unintelligible for gimp so I just created my own version.

the overall look is very nice, Draconian
i love the brown hue !

are the sparks supposed to be a blowtorch cutting through the metalplate ?

if so, theres something wrong with the 3D, because the text looks like its floating over the plate

Yeah, the drop shadow was an afterthought and this particular image could probably do without it. I didn't like the smooth polished look of the edges. I wanted it to look more like the torch did the bevel cutting but couldn't think how to get it to look jaggedy and irrregular.

Thanks Erisian. I DL them from DA but had a heck of a time getting rid of the background without ruining the sparks themsleves. Perhaps setting them to screen against the darker background would have helped.

Maybe you missed the part about I downloaded these. I didn't make them, I just borrowed them. Besides, this tut making is getting a bit old these days. I feel some serious fishing coming on. :)

I really like the background with the subtle shadows and the colors. Looking really good, Draconian

Sorry, they're not brushes, they are pictures that I removed the background from and used as a layer. I have a lot of pics of "sparklers" now and am in the process of creating the brushes. Set of 10 total so hold on a bit.

Rod - Thanks, I know how you like to do those PS tuts.

Haven't done anything in Gimp in an age, but this looks like fun to play with.
