I discovered that if you use alpha to selection on text then run G'MIC Artistic>Warhol you get this effect.

erisian: it looks fun, but i tried it and it didn't work. that is, it looked right in the preview, but the actual result was just empty coloured boxes on a whole layer, no selection. strange, i think.

That happened to me once when I had an additional layer. I don't know why it does that.

Nice effect! I don't use G'mic, though...I tried to install it a long time ago but I couldn't get it to work. lol

It's cranky. Works one time, doesn't the next. I tried writing Gimp Chat in two rows. Wouldn't work. Even started a new image and used Chat and it wouldn't, so I ended up with Gimp which is better than nothing. Good find, Erisian.

I've done a similar effect using the checker render in gimp's defaults...Ofc it's not text, but it's kinda cool for an Alice in wonderland effect. lol

really cool effect!

***but it didn't work exactly right for me....it showed correctly in preview but when I applied it, it just copied the text to the warhol settings in a block. I could easily invert the selection and cut, so not a big problem.

It would be really cool if we could make it do something like this.

Seems Warhol is too hit and miss. One day I'm going to redownload 2.8 just to see what that text editor is capable of.

That is what I got, too, akky....so I just kept my original text selection, inverted, and cut. Then you get the effect originally intended.

I know, I wish it would work right...perhaps one of the scripting guru's can figure out a script for the same ending effect.
