I 've been searching for days if not weeks for my 10 year old son who has taken a very strong interest in making "LEGO" stop motion video, but he wants to make them better! He insisted that GIMP is the better program for him to use??? Me i'm not sure? Please any reply will be of great appreciation for my 10 year old boy. You may also reach me @ captflumpy@msn.com

Sincerely Thanks!

Could you give more detail as to what he's looking to do. Gimp is certainly a good possibility for 2D animations.

Gimp is excellent for any photo work including animation. It's certainly worth a try and you've got a good community here to help and advise you. There is also a package for Gimp called GAP (Gimp animation package) which will be very useful and some here have written scripts to help with animation.

Do you mean my fractal gallery? Thank you. :)

GIMP, with the GAP (GIMP Animation Plug-in), is quite useful for post processing of stop motion animation. However, the main software you will need is a capture program. If you have a Linux-based machine then Linux StopMotion is a good choice (apparently ported to Windows).

I would recommend visiting the Bricks In Motion website for more information on brickfilming and a vibrant and helpful community. This site would be the place to ask about using GIMP and GAP.

If you run windows, lego actually do a stop motion camera.

you have to have it plugged into your computer and the relevant software download (Supplied I think), then you just snap away and make your own little films.

Of course the other thing you do, which my son has spent hours doing is just use your mobile phone video camera, just press play then pause for each frame. Bit crude I know but its a simple and cheap way of making films and the results can be pretty good.
