Hi.

I changed some of gimps plugins.
Standard is:
(small) Preview first, under it the option sliders or whatever.
Thats not cool.
I Changed to:
(big) preview left, option sliders on the right.

other plugins:

seperate+: changed to lcms2
resynth: recompiled with optimization options: feels about 3 times faster

It does appear slightly faster. Used it (not share) for another goldenrod render and it worked well. At round the 70% done point, the rest just zipped done too (different behavior then what I am use to with the progress bar) but again, appears faster (but I didn't time the old with the new). Anyway, thanks for sharing the file; using the 64-bit version of Resynthesizer of course. :)

Thank you for modifying/optimizing plugins.

You do not need a patch.
Hat you need is a lcms2.dll in path.
It is the newer color management system, that gimp uses.

I thought Elle Stone is still in the process of porting color management module to lscm2.
If she has done it already - it's a great news but probably available only in 2.9 git version, no?

Anyway, new updated separate+ plugin - when I load GIMP, it warns me about missing liblscm2-2.dll files.

Where can I get lscm2.dll? Thanks.

If you have Photivo you'll have, liblcms2-2.dll on your system.

Good to hear from you again Onkel Hatti.
Since I use Linux only I can't use them.
Could you please supply it in source?
Any kind of compression is OK.
Many thanks in advance.
Gerard.

Or ImageMagic, which I also don't have. Is Photivo worth installing? I mean, I've been using UFRaw to process raw images.
Can you compare the two, please? Thanks.

There's a couple of Meet The Gimp episodes that show Photivo in use:
http://blog.meetthegimp.org/episode-176-double-photivo/
http://blog.meetthegimp.org/episode-177 ... -and-gimp/

And Rolf's initial introduction to Photivo:

Thank you, Kevin!
I've already installed it. I'll watch the videos today.
Now I have Photivo, UFRaw and eLynx on my system.
Gotta do the comparative 'analysis' and get rid of one. Three is too many!
eLynx is a light-weight and robust app, though, it never let me down.
Probably will keep them all. :pac
P.S. having liblscm2-2.dll file on my system and even placing copies of it to the GIMP folders didn't solve the problem,
it still warns me about app not starting correctly :(

Not easy to compare :
ImageMagick is a command line app so no interface,
Ufraw is mainly to read and convert (even if allow several adjustments)
Photivo is more a graphic editor

and there is even Delaboratory that is even different somehow closer to Photivo as concept

To add even more confusion i much prefer Rawtherapee to UFraw (even if there is not a gimp plugin..but who care in this case ?)

I didn't worked much with raw photo lately...but i saw about 300 cumulated in my camera so this may change now

Thanks for you input to the discussion, PC!
Now I have a real dilemma as to which one I'd prefer, lol!
But it's not good to steal a thread, so we have to get back to the topic

yes back to the theme:
@ Onkel Hatti i installed on my gimp 64 bit, they do really look much better now

could you compile for 64bit also the other plugins, those with a hardcoded preview size to be enlarged ? (gimpressionist, map object, ligthing effect, fractal trace, small tiles, depth merge ...humm i may forget some but i believe i listed the most important )
Actually i am using the 32bit versions on gimp 64 bit but is not ideal...

The first three plugins still exist with larger preview compiled in 64 Bit
The others - I will see. I don't have much time, and mainly, I spend it for 32 Bit gimp.
I don't see the benefit of 64Bit gimp. I have to recompile almost all plug-ins,
that means, that I have to search for the source on web. Thats a disadvantage.
I use gimp 32 for photo retouching my 18MPixel DSLR images and I never saw gimps borders.
Friends of mine have 32bit Win7 and I give them "my" specialized gimp (larger previews of plugins,
lcms2, logarithmic brush size behaviour (like in gimp-2.9.x) and: splash immediately :-) ), so there
is no need for 64bit gimp.
Maybe you can tell me the obvious advantages of 64 bit Gimp for Windows (7).

well i have 8gb ram so for me the advantage is obvious, the 32bit gimp may use only 2gb .

That honestly doesn't speed up gimp so much as i hoped but anyway the 64bit not only is faster but now run more smoothly simultaneously with other resources hungry apps :

Not that the 32bit version (i tested the 32bit portable on the same PC ) it is much slower but Gmic with less RAM aborts more often

This first 3 ? gimpressionist, map object, ligthing effect ..where ?

PhotoCommix is the 32bit big preview available for gimpressionist as it was not used in your PC-Lab32bit, whereas the 64bit version has a big preview.

I have testetd it out, and 64Bit gimp is not faster than 32Bit gimp.
Yes, it uses just 2GB, but I never reached the 2GB border, and my Computer has
32GB RAM. I don't use GMic often, because it is very slow, even with 64Bit.
