Haven't played with Kevin's POVRay output script-fu in a few months so why not. :)

Lylejk started the thread about POVSphere http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4480 but I got carried away with writing a script-fu version, the last version of which is at this post: http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f ... =80#p56902

And lylejk, nice one... hexagons looking good.

Kevin

Thanks, Kevin.
I'm new to POV, I've only used it with defaults. The presets are good but to master it would take some time.

I have to say again how much I appreciate Kevin's cool Script-fu. Much better then the original plugin that I found back then (by a long mile). Wish I was more into the 3D apps out there, but I prefer photo manipulation. Just easier for me to do then create stuff from scratch. :)

Note that I processed the result in POVRay AnMal, but you can get some good result with the GIMP only part too of the script-fu too, but I usually port the resulting pov file into POVRay then do some additional tweaks with the output in GIMP of course. POVRay is free (can't remember if it is Open Source and too lazy to look that up right now; lol) by the way. :)

Lyle, you've got me at it again ;)

I've decided to re-do the script in Python to make it more robust, and along the way I've added a new shape. The script isn't ready yet, but just as a teaser:

This is the GIMP sample picture (not POV-Ray), 6-point stars, sample layer duplicated and edge-detected with the original picture on the bottom layer.

Results in POV-Ray this time

I've just got to tidy up the code and put lots more comments in so that next time I come to look at it I can understand what I've done :shock:

OK Kevin; how do you get the angled mapping again with Povray file? Still like this now Python plugin version. Kudos again for your effort with this. :)

You change the position of the camera:

camera
{
  location  <2, 0.25, -3.5>    // x, y, z position of the camera
  right     4/3*x
  look_at   <2, 0.25,  0.0>    // x, y, z position the camera is pointing at
}

camera
{
  location  <-0.4, -0.7, -2.0>    // x, y, z position of the camera
  right     4/3*x
  look_at   <1.2, 0.25,  0.0>    // x, y, z position the camera is pointing at
}

By default the script puts the camera to be looking square onto the objects.

Thanks Kevin; not a Povray guy and I only toyed with it a few times but never understood how to map at different positions. Never thought to try some math and the camera location. :)
