lol. I wanted to post a pic of our little clematis vine...it is still managing to put out a few blooms even in the cold weather, but I'm to much of a sissy to go out in the tail end of Sandy, with the wind and sleet. So no photo unless it warms up.

Here are a few of the last of our fall flowers. The selective decolorized one is a little sloppy, I used my mouse. Normally for that I'd use my Bamboo.

Very pretty. The pink ones almost look like they could be a while orchid. I also love the yellow Daisy against the blue background, really makes it stand out.

I don't but it sure is pretty, looks something like a poppy but the leaves don't show so it is hard to identify.

probably not. I know I had a lot of double poppies over the years that looked something like that. It is too bad there isn't a forum where you can have flowers identified like the forum I use to identify fonts, lol
This is what I had in mind but it isn't quite the same. These are fuller.

having just survived Hurricane Sandy (power came back on this afternoon after going off on Monday), I thought it appropriate that I show you that Mom's Iris survived the storm:

a better view - pre-storm - is this:

a great deal of trees, unfortunately, did not.

Wow, it seems funny to see Iris's at this time a year. I am about 6 hrs north of you and my Iris's were all finished blooming in the spring.
Anyway, they are very beautiful and I am glad you didn't come to any harm in that storm.
Watching it on CNN showed that New York got hit the hardest and had the most casualties, so there must be a lot of clean up involved getting your city back in order.

my mother always gets an iris or two in the fall. I don't know how she does it :)

and, yes, the storm really hit hard. we got REALLY lucky. Of course, we are on high ground. it's the people near the shores that got pummeled. I have a friend who lives in Breezy Point and they got hell. I just found out her home did NOT burn down, but so many were unfortunate.

just around me people had huge trees fall near or on their homes. see my album:

what an experience!

Nice flowers Cecilia and glad that you at least got power back. I know a few folk living in that area too and am concerned for them as well. Just hope you and all get the help and assistance to quickly recover.

Wow, Those trees down like that could have killed a lot of people if they had landed on the houses instead of across the roads. Someone was sure looking out for these people.

Last night we noticed planes flying into JFK. Now, normally, we see a plane on the typical flight path and then minutes pass before we see another. Last night they were coming in VERY close together. We figured these were the military planes (Hercules?) that were bringing in the people from out of state that the President mentioned.

Maybe a dozen planes had passed by before I noted the time - around 8PM - but more came after that. I can't tell you how good that made us feel. A thousand heroes coming to help their fellow Americans.

Now that we have power back, we will be fine. But across the street my neighbors still have no lights on (wow, is that a weird feeling). and there are lots of others who have no homes. My thoughts go out to them.

my cousin lives in Broad Channel, Queens. They survived but I don't think their house did. Right now they are in a hotel somewhere. I am not sure if any houses survived in Broad Channel, the whole island is only a couple of feet above sea level.

Just realized that this is the first capture I've done this year (fake retoucher I am; no photog. lol). Anyway, another capture of a Tithonia flower. Last year one came up possibly due to a wild flower carpet that I planted for Dad (though no other flower came up) or more then likely a bird dropping. lolol

I released this one as creative common so folk, feel free to play with it if you want to. Just click on the image for it's Flickr where you can get the uber hirez original (EXIF intact). :)
