I'm not sure about what you are requesting.
Can you show me an example? (a mock-up is fine)

The drawing to letters of wishes?
Two "straight lines" options: "straight line" and " bow":
Drawing sections: A - B - C - D is already possible (setting options to zero - maybe it will let straight - with choice one option: line) - (Figure 1)
How do to draw bow B - C - (Figure 2) ?

OK, I'll try to see if I can make it fit in the rendering algorithm, maybe add an edge type that will merge the two lines in a single one.

Have you tried to use the Wall edges? They create straight lines in some circumstances.

As MareroQ suggested, you can fit the curve to the edges setting "curve control" (controllo curva) and "crossing gap" (apertura incrocio) to 0.00.
This is actually a work-around, it will still draw two lines.

A more complicated way to achieve this is via SVG export and editing the result in Inkscape or some other program.
This, of course, is impractical if you want something simple.

Once I've finished setting up a more flexible rendering engine doing customized things will be possible from within Knotter.

I've thought about the dotted grid as well, I believe drawing it would be much more complicated and therefore slowing Knotter performance down. But I'll add it to the to-do list.

You can drag the whole scene with the middle mouse.

I can't watch the video as I don't have Flash installed.
If you want you can send me the original mp4 video via email (my address can be found in the AUTHORS file or the manual)

If you click "Move grid" you can move the grid while keeping the knot still.
If you select all nodes and drag one of them with the left mouse button you'll move the knot while keeping the grid still.
If you drag any point of the canvas using the middle mouse button (usually the mouse wheel), both the grid and the knot will move.

All of the above work for me, maybe it doesn't work on Windows?

mbasagli,
I can confirm these methods work fine in Windows.

My problem is not moving the grid; it's panning (i.e., I want to be about to move around the object when zoomed in). Can't see to figure out how to do this. I usually zoom out then zoom back in to where I need to concentrate on and this is not ideal for me. :)

It also works for Windows (although we're used to the scroll bar ....)
Another small problem:
If you have several separate nodes (of the two points) is not possible to use Rotate and Scale for the selected group of nodes - this work will only if you select all (but if you use three or more - this is possible - why?)

As I said above, the middle mouse should do it.
I've tried to use a scroll bar but I couldn't make it work properly, maybe I can try again.

The rotate-scale tools are available only when 3 or more nodes are selected.
A single node of course cannot be rotated or scaled as it has no size or orientation.
I decided not to enable this for groups of two nodes ad I thought that it would be simpler to move one of the nodes.
If you want it, I can enable rotate/scale for pairs of nodes, it's just an arbitrary limitation.

Your assumption is logical - junction of the two points you are doing as you want (deleting unnecessary and insert new) - at the design stage (many nodes) an option for two points seems to be necessary.

For some reason, my middle button does not Mattia; tried to click the outer 2 buttons (which suppose to be identical to middle mouse button) and that doesn't work either. Oh well. :)

It can be confusing (for Windows 32 bit):
Two different options:
Move Grid - Snap to grid

I think I'll rewrite Knotter from scratch.
It was intended to be an experiment so the code structure is not super clean.
I'm gonna include the last requests into this rewrite.

The result should be stable, fast and extensible but something usable will take a very long time to be released.

I'm also planning to change the name to KnotDraw as it is the domain name (knotter.org/.com were already registered :( )

If you have any idea for some feature that can be implemented during the rewrite, let me know.

That would be excellent Mattia. Definitely looking forward to the update. I'm really a poser, but we do have a lot a celtic knot fans here and they, I'm sure, have already appreciated your efforts thus far and will any future update that you release. :)

The only thing that come to mind, other than layers, would be an easier way to move objects.

Question to the author of the program (mbasaglia):
It will be updated?
When?
