Micki, here is a link that tells you how/where to install it.

http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp.shtml

Check out the different tabs in the website to get a little info about using it.

Are you closing and re-opening gimp after you put the plug-in into the plug-ins folder?

What version of gimp are you using?

I don't understand what you did in the plugins folder in preferences. There should be two links in there. Did you delete them? Your filters are probably all still there but if the links are gone, gimp can't find them.

You must have an image open in gimp to be able to use gmic or it will be grayed out.

Should be \Documents & Settings\<yourname>\.gimp-2.6\plug-ins

In gimp, please click Help > About and give me the version of gimp it says you are using.

This from the link you put in this post.

On Windows, the plug-in directory is usually located at C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.x\lib\gimp\2.0\plugins\.
Required libraries files are provided in the archive for Windows.

OK, I don't think it matters which plug-ins folder you use. Go ahead and put it into the plug-ins folder the plug-in website tells you to.

There are two plugins folders, yes. One is for everyone to use, the other one is for your personal use if you happen to have others using your computer with a different signon.

The Program Files path is fine for putting it in. Don't use both though.

I don't know what you are doing.

Look in both plug-ins folders: Docs & Settings and Program Files ... make sure the gmic plug-in is only in one of those folders.

I hope you are saying that you are looking in the plug-ins folder in both doc & setting and program files.

Can you make a screen shot of Edit > Preferences > Folders > Plugins and attach it in here? Save it to your hard drive. Below the text entry box in here, scroll down and click the Upload Attachment Browse button, find the screen shot and add the file. You will have to wait a little while for it to upload.
