windows gmic installer will install gmic in C:/Documents and Settings/yourname/.gimp/plugin,...that for several reasons is a better place to install addon
note that path is FOR XP ,FOR 7 or VISTA is C:/Users/yourname/.gimp/plugin

If you now you have no more filter is because you messed a bit the paths in preferences
To add a path for a new folder, you have first to click on the new folder icon in the pref dialogue or instead then add you will overwrite the previous path

so the soluction there is simply add back the path, for the included plugin may be something as C:/Program Files/gimp/lib/2.0/gimp/plugin (check it, don't just copy and paste, your HD may even be called D instead then C, and often some typo slips in my typing

You now

sure is there, but you click on that gmic folder to expland and then on OK ?
Gimp preference doesn't look inside subfolders if you don't point a path to the subfolder

Now, in gimp, in the image window, I want you to click Edit > Preferences > Folders > Plug-ins and make a screen shot of that one and put it in here.

Yes, that's the one I want to see. Mine has two paths: One to \Program files\...\plug-ins and the other one to \Docs&Settings\...\plug-ins.

You don't have to have both but I like having both in there anyway. That way you can put your stuff where you want it and if and when you get another machine, you can copy out of the Docs &
Settings folders to save things you have downloaded.

I would still like to know which version you have of gimp. Instead of just saying the latest version, please, in gimp/help/about and look at the version number. I don't know if you have 2.6 or 2.7 (which is a beta but recent).

OK, now, open an image in gimp. No gif files, but any other kind will do.

Go to Filters > G'MIC ... and let's see if it's working for you. If it doesn't work, perhaps your version is too old.

You should have another path in there too:

C:\Program Files\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

Put that path in there with the other one

before you both wrote a wrong path

should be something as C:/Program Files/GIMP-2.0/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins

that or with "\" instead then "/"
