This is what you have to do..
First reinstall Gimp- restart your computer.
Download the G'MIC plug-in folder again (the most recent version)
Unzip it into a folder on your desktop
open the file until you see the setup.exe file.
Click the setup exe file - Setup will run - when it asks you which directory to install into
change the text in the dialog box to
C:\Program Files\Gimp 2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\Plug-ins
Click ok
G'MIC will install into your Gimp program plug-ins folder.
NOW - open that same folder- make sure G"MIC is there.
Start Gimp
Go to Edit/Prefeences
Select folders in the list
Select Plug-ins
There should be by default after Gimp Install two directory paths in that folder
1) your user docs plug-in folder path
2) your program files plug-in folder path

Click ok to close preferences dialog window
Open any image in Gimp - G'MIC requires an open drawable to run
Go to Filters/G'MIC - click it
G'MIC will open and your image will be in the window

Enjoy! =)

yeah your looking in the wrong directory.
go to the ... lib\gimp\2.0\Plug-ins folder
i see it in your directory tree plain as day...G'MIC

lol
I can see where you are confused their are a few plug-in folders in Gimp directory
You need the one starting from the lib folder. =)

The thing is, Gimp knows which paths to create right when it installs.
it creates those two paths for you in your preferences plug-in paths dialog.

In short you should NOT have to touch those two settings unless you change the path physically, say you changed your username or something like that. Other than that there is no need to mess with those two path settings.

When G'MIC installs it installs by default into your C:\Documents and Settings\UserNameHere\gimp 2.0\Plug-ins folder. So you shouldnt have to mess with it either.
lol

Most of setup.exe for Gimp work this way, they know where to install themselves most of the time.

Just a little side note regarding the installation of zipped plug-ins that have their own (.dll) library files (like G'MIC, for instance). Great care needs to be taken where those files are extracted to, because for one, a plug-ins folder with multiple .dll files can cause a host of problems, not only with the plug-in itself, but other plug-ins as well.

In the case of G'MIC and other plug-ins like it (those that have accompanying .dll files) I always recommend to GIMPers to extract them to their own folders (anywhere they want to on their Windows system) and then point GIMP's plug-ins folder preferences to it. It will save a ton of headaches right out of the gate. And it's the best way to install that particular type of plug-in. Throwing all your plug-ins into either the application (Program files) or user (.gimp-2.6) plug-ins folders just because its a plug-in, isn't always the best course of action.

Linux, on the other hand, works differently.

I felt this was important enough to mention, because I keep seeing differences in the way instructions are passed to new users. Although, for most, a particular set-up/install works, doesn't necessarily mean its the best route to go.

Mahvin explained well how do manually

But in this case why you got the zip instead then the Windows installer?
It will take care of everything

Look better in the download options, you will see gmic_gimp.exe that is the installer

PC:

I think she did, in the end use the installer, but reading through the posts, I wasn't sure if both methods were used or not. I just wanted to make sure the zip method was covered. I have never used the installer for Windows, mainly because I am always in Linux.

Rod sorted out the installer routine there in the end. At least now, if anyone does use the zip, they'll see the recommendations.

Now I have a question in regards to the installer. I don't have Windows up at the moment, so hopefully you can answer this and perhaps it will help someone else in the future. What folder does the installer send the gmic plug-in to? Program files or user?

That's what I thought, according to O's earlier posts. Thanks, Molly.

When i installed the latest Windows setup version it installed by default into my user directory along with all the other files, including the _gmic folder with curl.exe in it.
