i've been re-reading all my celtic art and design books and this time i was inspired to work more on the spiral shapes and the triskells than on knotwork. here's a first attempt - and of course there are some knots in there too, but they don't get the main stage this time.

I like the 3-D-ness of the snakelike parts...they really look like they are rounded

Excellent blend of styles, AnMal! Loving it! 3D effect is a good find in this case.
What is that texture behind Celtic knots? Did you make it yourself?

COOL

i hope you don't mind a quick tweak

For modify the shapes i only used MM (droste, external transparency) for intensify the colors that the process made too pale, i used a quick trick (see xcf, )

Looks good, the colours all work well together and as with everyone else I like the 3d effect you have managed to create.

thanks everyone for the nice comments :)!
photo comix: :wow those turned out amazing! :hi5 you can play with my images any time you like, i consider it an honour. and i think i've alreade got that celtic virus  .
2-ton: thank you! i like that softly rounded look too, it's a bit like the results of the glossy text tutorial here, though i didn't use that technique.
k1tesseraena: thank you! the texture inside the circles is the same pattern used in the triskell, only scaled down and in the original colour. yes, i made it myself using a kaleidoscope software, don't remember if this was made with kaleider or with silicon mirror.
he4rty: thanks! i'm glad someone mentioned the colours - i'm really working with my colour schemes at the moment because i so easily get stuck with my usual shocking pink.

Not only the celtic virus

From rumours i heard a malicious Necromancer is working on genetic modifications of the Celtic virus to create a new deadly race of Celtic snakes ...most snakes are still malformed but as you may see they already may lay eggs :wh

thanks, all of you! i really like this myself, but i wasn't sure anyone else would :).
lylejk: i'm not sure you should thank me for sharing, lyle - when i make something i like this much wild horses couldn't keep me from showing it to the gc crowd :).
merrak: thanks. the 3d effect was on this was actually ridiculously simple, but i agree it turned out well.

- as opposed to everything else you say, then? ;) seriously, though - thanks!
abraess: i don't get them from anywhere in the sense download them as brushes or paths or something. i made these from scratch using the gimp path tool. but i have several books on celtic art and design and i've learned basic knotwork construction from them. lately i've also been tipped off on some very good gimp tutorials on knotwork, here they are if you're interested:
http://www.gimptalk.com/index.php?/topic/6570-triskit-knot-tutorial/ (making of a basic triquetra knot)
http://cryosphinx.deviantart.com/art/Knotwork-Tutorial-for-Gimp-150541603 (a bit more complex than the triquetra, but not too overwhelming)
erisian: thank you :). what about your own celtic stuff - didn't you say long, long ago that you had an xcf with some knotwork you could tweak?
photo comix: i can't keep up with mad science! from celtic virus to celtic snakes in practically no time, where will we end up, i wonder? Image
gasto: :yes another victim of the celtic virus :). there are quite a lot of celtic music lovers here on gc (i'm one if them) and also many who love celtic knotwork.

i am really impressed by the similitude with the Neolithic graffiti of the Utanissar caves ... i should have a example somewhere... ah here a postcard, colors are a bit false for the artificial lights , at soon they found a authentic neolithic cave they fill up with all sort of artificial light .

Image

What connections may be between the neolithic graffiti brotherhood of the Utanissar caves and the knowledge of the ancient druids ?
