This is really just for some practice but it turned out pretty O.K. I download a silhouette of a chess piece and using the things I'd learnt in doing the crown moulding gradients created a gradient for the Image. I used the gradient in a blend top to bottom to create the depth of the image profile, then using path blend and a half circle gradient blended left to right to try and create the illusion of the piece bieng curved. Finally added a marble texture displaced using the profile gradient.

he4rty: that's fantastic! impressive that you made it with gradients, i don't hink i could do anything this complicated using the gradient tool!

Thanks for the comments, I doubt I'll try anymore as this one was done to try out a wallpaper idea.

Esper - The background lighting was just a black layer with a checker board layer above it which had a layer mask consisting of a radial blend.
