Here is my new painting..right now i have only a rough sketch that i put down on paper with a no. 2 pencil...i came up with this scene out of my own head..

I also agree about the tree, I always learned when I took art that you don't want to lead the eye out of the picture but to tilt you branches inward, not out but I think in this case you have too much slant on the trunk and a good wind could knock it over. Otherwise you are coming along great.

i am sorry i haven't posted any updates on this since i started this thread. i took a few days off from working with gimp. But today i did some work on it. now i know the picture below looks like a lot of work has been done on it. but i got a ways to go before i am done...here is what i have so far....i did change the mountains in the background from the sketch. and i may add some snow to the one that is closest to the foreground.

very good...the water looks real!

more work done to my painting...shadow added to the tree...and more work done to the water...

i have added the high lights to the tree...but still more work to be done...

i know i have been gone for awhile but needed a break..but here is how i finished this piece...sorry i haven't been on lately...

It came out well I think, the shadow over the path helps to establish depth and the oval cut is also useful for focusing the style. Nice!
I might have guessed more of the mountain should reflect in the lake though, might be worth playing with for more effect.

really nice, I like the oval concept, pulls you in to the picture more and seems to give more focus to the image as a whole.

I like the colors of the sky and water.That's a shade of blue that's always made me happy.

I noticed you named it after Bob Ross. Good ole Bob would say that poor tree is lonely and needs a friend. I concur. Maybe add another tree to it and some bushes. It seems a little empty still.

Other than that, I think you're off to a really good start. Looking forward to seeing the finished painting.
