I posted this animation over at gimptalk about five years ago. Just posting for those who may be new and had not seen this before and since we are approaching the snowy season (although this December has been unusually warm here):

At the time, I was seeking a way to make a natural snowing effect in Blender. I found a youtube tutorial at the time that used particles and then adapted it by adding occasional wind at various strengths to give it an even more realistic effect.

One change I would make to this animation would be to make the snowman stop and turn torwards the "camera" while waving rather than just looking and waving at us as he moves along. Maybe he could stop and do a little snowman dance for us too, lol. Also, since this is about five years old, perhaps Blender has a better way to present the snow on the ground to make it appear more textured like real snow.

This is a simple Path animation in Blender. So although it looks like the snowman traverses a couple of small hills, it's really only following a simple path.

Thank you for checking it out.

:)

Absolutely amazing, ccbarr!
5 years old animation? Unbelievable!
Yeah, there were some technological breakthroughs in Blender in the past years, mostly in particle physics/dynamics and rendering engines.
Snow on the ground looks quite realistic to me and snowfall is perfect.
Thank you again for sharing it here!
