It works now. The script does show in the path menu.
And now I know what was preventing the script from registering.
I have both 2.8 and 2.6 versions of GIMP on my PC. Turned out having t-a-p-0.3 in both
somehow messes things up in Windows.

It did happen before but only with some C plugins.
I had to uninstall MathMap and GMIC from 2.6 to make them work in 2.8.
The only reason I keep 2.6 is because GAP is fully functional in it.

After deleting t-a-p-0.3 from 2.6 plugin folder it did register in 2.8.
I'm still puzzled because I have no explanation for that behavior.
Double checked my suspicions and copied t-a-p-0.3 to 2.6 again.
The same problem arose. Weird.

Spent 2 hrs checking other C and Python plugin pairs that I have in both 2.6 and 2.8.
So far no conflicts.
Thank you, Ofnuts, for helping me out.
I wouldn't write all of these explanations but I didn't want you to think that i'm dumb or something.

Kind regards,

Bumping up an older thread instead of starting a new one. Ofnuts, this plugin is awesome. Saves me a lot of time. Thanks for this, much appreciated. I'm working on a tshirt logo for someone, for a the third year in a row, for an event. This is such a time saver.

I like this plugin but some times have to go to illustrator to get straight font characters. I've noticed that when this filter puts text on a curve it also effects the curvature of the resulting font paths.

Would you have an example? Because the changing character curvature is a side-effect of the built-it TAP, my script only rotates character paths and this should keep their curvature.

When you make large text along a small curve you can notice it the most.

With my text-along-path script? Call me very surprised because it is meant to avoid it. By contrast, the algorithm used by the standard TAP will alaways distort the letters. Below from top to bottom:
  • Gimp's text-along-path (distorts letters, but avoids clashes)
  • My own text to path (letters are not distorted but overlap each other is sharp curves)
  • My own text to path (with additional spacing)

Once again my stupidity comes out. I was using Gimps Text Along Path. I've downloaded and used the ofnuts plugin and it works great. I wish I didn't say anything but then again I'm glad I did. I guess I'm glad I'm stupid but sorry that everybody has to know it.

This is great. Now when my hard drive goes out I won't need to get Illustrator on the cloud via the monthly subscription. I have Illustrator CS2 because they were giving it out for free just before they went cloud based. My old Illustrator 8 don't work on newer operating systems. Or maybe it's the 64 bit processor.

Just found this one and tried it out on 2.8.14 but couldn't get it by right clicking the text layer. I right clicked on the path layer and viola! There it was! Pasted in my text and it worked like a champ! I love it!
