I got it thanks to all who persisted with me but I deleted my current 32bit java and then installed the 64bit and 32bit java from the link K1TesseraEna posted for me 'I'm stoked' :yes :jumpclap

it totally corupted my FU scripts for some reason and that prevented any further loading of scripts when I opened my 2.6 to check the one change I made. No problems I made a copy of the file before I started fiddling with the new toy. Besides this it seems to function OK, I think the mistake I made was to leave the gimp open, Will have another try tomorrow (nah that's chrissy day here) merry Xmas all
this is what it added to the script

On a more positive note, it is working fine here.
Linux - PcLinuxOs 32 bit - java ver 1.6.0_35

I suspect that I am the same as most, a large collection of scripts from the year dot,
Frequently used ones get managed by either GURM or MrQ's plugins, leaving a large balance barely remembered, making finding any particular script a chore. So a useful tool for me.

This it editing a comment

It does as Onkel says and makes a backup of the original.

and a check to see what Gimp says

One item a cannot see much use for, is 'delete this menu entry' - IMHO this is better served by one of the script managers, but as a wish item, same as Odinbc, the ability to open in an editor would be good.

No, there will be no editor, this would kill that tool.
JGimpOS opens a script, parses it for "script-fu-menu-register" and "script-fu-register".
It stores the postion of that entries internally. When saving the (changed) script, it
deletes the entries from the stored postions and adds the changed entries at the end of
the remaining script.
If the script is changed by an editor in the meantime, the parsed positions are not correct
any longer. JGimpOS recognizes those changes by calculating a hash for the original script,
which is checked just before saving a changed script. If the script has changed externally in the
meantime, JGimpOS refuses to save.

OK, I understand that.
It accomplishes its main task for me which is to locate that pesky half-remembered script. Once found then maybe if I do not like (say) the menu location, then I can edit elsewhere.

Once again thanks for this very useful tool.

Make sure GIMP is closed before using JGIMPOS.

Hah! Now you tell me. That must be why I got the strange issues from editing script display names. It put the menu path in the display name area for some reason. I had to go into the text editor to straighten it out. Oops.

Is there any way to disable the auto-expand on the submenus in the drag-n-drop window? I'd like for just the submenu I want open to be open. As is, the instant I drag something over another submenu on my way to drop it, the other submenu opens. Then every sub-submenu I cross in that submenu opens. Then... well, you get the idea. It gets very confusing very quickly. When all the menus are collapsed it's perfectly manageable. At the very least it would be nice to set a delay like most file browsers have so that it doesn't trip instantly.

*EDIT*
Also-- it apparently doesn't like to move submenus.
