Wonderful, Esper! Very impressive!

As well as your other work, Bliss. Very sharp and clean-cut.
I didn't get that part about 'Draconian path'.
Was it so unique?
You did get me intrigued with gradient editing mystery, would love to get that deciphered too if you don't mind.

Thanks K1te !

Draconian is the guy who did all the metalworx tutorials
for some reason hes missing for quite some time now
i blame santa

i collaborated a bit with him via email, some months ago and he likes to do PS tuts and then recreate them in Gimp
and i want to be a good padawan

about the "unique", i just like to be a bit dramatique and tongue in cheek from time to time, to make my posts fun

for the gradient editor, i recommend checking this video and just try to follow what kid wonder is doing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjuCM-UTXaQ

the editor is really not that complicated, just a bit tedious
and i currently find out what good stuff you can achieve with a self made gradient
watch this space

The text with its clean lines is gorgeous, I'd be very intrigued as to how that was achieved.

thanks he4rty

the tutorial is here:
http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/text- ... t-to-life/

i couldnt replicate the exact same effect, so i made a variation
instead of making it sunny i made it film noir

especially the lighting effects looked bad in Gimp, so i ditched them
instead of the duplicate and offset by 1px technique i used the clone layer script - much easier !
transforming the lightrays was the most difficult - i think they should somewhat align with the motion blurred shadow, but the tutorial doesnt mention that

Yours is much better than in tutorial, in my opinion. You got some nice touches added, which makes it better.

esper: the text is so well defined and crisp, admit even you must be happy witrh that :)! i have serious problems with the lighting effect, not the general look of it because the film noir touch looks great, but it seems the shadows can't decide if they're going to be realistic or not. i don't think there's anything wrong with shadows that are just for effect, but these shadows look a little confused, makes me feel a bit sorry for them.

imo, the real kicker of the PS tutorial is the lighting effect, and that i couldnt replicate

i find it interesting that everybody likes Noir better than Bliss
maybe because the gold effect has been seen a thousand times, but the Noir effect not ?

personally i was more happy with Bliss

also the techniques used in Noir are quite simple, i guess its the overall dramatic atmosphere that apparently appeals so much to everybody ?

@ Esper: you're right about lighting effect. It's not quite the same as in GIMP, but if not mistaken, PS doesn't have bump mapping option available in GIMP's LE.
You can achieve pretty good effects to create textured surfaces.
