i have a series of poor quality images that i need to re size and add a few filters to to clean them up, but as there are around 400 of them i could use some kind of plugin that i can tell GIMP to just resize and repeat a few filters, then export the layer/image as a sequential PNG or jpeg in a similar way to Photoshops action function.
does anything like that exist or do i just try buying a half decent video camera?

But it was written a couple of years ago and I haven't tried it but some folks here might have.
What I know for sure is Batch Image Manipulation Plugin (BIMP) is a batch processing tool which allows you to run a sequence of filters on images and folders.
It's more recent and being updated constantly by its creator.

brilliant, could be just what i'm looking for, not sure if it can create layers though for plugins that usse layers, but i will muck around with it and see what happens

If your goal is video and your trying to get frame sequences check out GAP as well. It's primarily for animation, but also useful for automating batch filters with Filtermacro.

i can render the individual frames as images (jpeg/png, whatever) using Blender, but i'll check out GAP for its filtermacro feature
