Did you overwrite the disc, or is it still available?

Hi Rod,
You can use "TestDisk" it is a powerful free data recovery software! It was designed to help recover lost partitions/Undelete files/Copy files from deleted FAT, exFAT, NTFS and ext2/ext3/ext4 partitions... :bigthup

Esper, I have the same system as you, it works fine with huge preview window.
There is a few Lighting plugins for download on this thread, all with different file-size. I don't remember which one I got,
but I can attach mine if you need it. Let me know.

Lighting is included in standard GIMP package, and it should be where you put it.
I think I know why it's not working for you. In order to have those Large preview window plugins work you need to replace 'tile-small' plugin with 'tile"
I am attaching it with a bunch of other bigger view plugins. Just don't delete your old plugins yet, so you can roll back if something went wrong.

They all 32-bit, working fine in 64-bit GIMP.

are also available at 64 bit

first are all included in the Onkel Hatti version of gimp 2.8.3 that include the RGGJAN selection tool
(a extra tool for select, i don't use often but seems better then siox ) and all revised plugins
the files are here http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-pa ... kel_Hatti/
there the 32bit the 64 and "gimprun" (gimprun in case you wish to make it portable.)

If you want only the plugins you may extract the plugins folder from thereand ..well transplant :

you will get a error for a missing dll for Liquify but you will found also the dll,( in the bin folder) and that will fix the popping error

And my incoming new version will also include the same plugins
.

i did think to make a pack but i didn't because the dll

I mean i believe everybody may replace the plugin folder , even if could only be done as admin

But here at least for the 64bit , for all to work it is needed also add a dll in the bin folder
(that is not too complex ...but is anyway more complex that just replace a folder )

Hi gentlemen, i would like to communicate my personal experience with these recompiled plugins:
1 - if i download and execute gimp 2.8.3, everything is there
2 - if i move only the plug-in folder of 2.8.3 (plus a lot of requested .dll) into 2.8.2 replacing those available there (and saved somewhere else) , everything is there
3 - if i simply replace into the 2.8.2 plug-in folder the set of 13 plug-ins included in the .zip mentioned above, the functions will disappear (i.e. there is no more "lighting..." nor "map..." in the respective menus); why could it be possible?
btw i have another silly question (pls excuse my ignorance): where can i find the errors gimp startup finds that inhibits the loading of some plugins? so that i can try to understand what happened...
many thanks

Hem when i wrote that was only 1 dll to fix, i did a bit of confusion :

the difference was 1 dll FOR MY VERSION (GIMP_PC_Lab ) and should be the same for who use Partha builds (or even that from Samj) but it is long i don't use the more diffused semi-official Windows builds from Gimp_win (that more or less suggested by http://www.gimp.org ) in that case maybe are more DLL
needed

I may only try a guess :
you didn't remove the plugin to replace and or Windows automatically prevented you to overwrite and automatically renamed the new plugin files , or more simply was some slight difference in some plugin file name so the original plugins remained there

But for gimp is not relevant the plugin FILE name but only the name embedded in the plugin codes
..and GIMP badly support clones, if are clones of same plugin or script BOTH clones may not work ...and not even show up in the menu

Anyway seems you already solved with 2 so why to bother about 3 ?

Thanks PC!
as far as number 3 is concerned, the curiosity is still there, because before moving those plug-ins i removed the current ones (the std of gimp 2.8.2) in order to put them in a safe place ready to be restored in case of need; and the new ones after this switching operation where there in the corrent names...
Anyhow, if you could tell me how and where to find error messages of gimp start-up (it must have said something, i suppose!) i could repeat the steps, just to remove from my mind the question mark.
many thanks

Maybe there is another reason i believe this pack come from a earlier compilation ,were compiled from some 2.7 version and maybe that compilation is no compatible with your 2.8.3

About error messages the error regarding plugin should pop out during loading time as the "missing dll " errors .

They should ...anyway to be sure you should call gimp from the Windows terminal (now i have problem to translate the path in English ...maybe is All Programs/accessories/Command Prompt
Or All Programs/Utilities/ Run ... or a combination of the 2 :-)

Anyway when you found the command pront, the terminal, you will just need to type the path for gimp.exe ,add "--verbose" and click enter
It may be something as "C:/Program Files/gimp-2.8.3/bin/gimp.exe --verbose" and all message should show up in the terminal (to copy from terminal CTRL+C may not work. shift+ctrl+c should work ...and in any case right click on the terminal and chose copy will work !

OK. I had time to do some test, here the results:
1 - your last guess was exact!!! because compiled for gimp 2.7 those in the zip file are not compatible with 2.8 (console error: "unable to run plug-in ..... failed to execute child process", for each of them)
2 - moving ONLY the corresponding plug-ins from 2.8.3 to 2.8.2 they all appear in the menus, but not all are executing correctly (preview window is large but squared, so the image is distorted; lighting crashes...)
3 - using 2.8.3 entirely as a standalone portable application, all are working properly
Thus: whoever like those large previews, better if he uses directly the new version 2.8.3
That's all for me and thanks again to PC for the kind and valid support.
