Here's a quick painting I did for the Devious Deadlines group on deviantART. The weekly theme is "red".

I've found out MyPaint and GIMP go very well together.

merrak: that's beautiful, i like the sunset light and the deep fog over the water - though of course just about anything could be lurking unseen in that water, brr! the house is my least favourite part of the picture, i think it looks like a different style than the rest.

not much to keep the house from flooding if the water level rises, yikes. Beautiful coloring.

I love the colors in your sky there. It looks like it's on fire.

I'd totally live in a house like that, though I'd probably put it on stilts. If it's a motorboat, I don't even mind boating back and forth for groceries.

Looking good, and certainly befitting the theme. :) I'll comment more thoroughly when the challenge draws to a close. :)

Ooo, lovely!
Isn't it kinda orange to be based off of red, though?
Just an opinion!
Still it's pretty either way! :D

Hmmm... maybe I should've hidden some eyes in the water...

I do need to tweak the house a bit. It's a bit too... transparent right now.

Steep flood insurance premiums, there. :)

Thanks for the comments!

It might be on a high enough hill to not flood. A lot of the older houses on Pea Island on the Outer Banks, NC are flat on the ground like this one, even close to the water. Somehow the last hurricane left them alone.

It's probably my best sky to date.

I suppose it's red enough :)

Beautiful. It has a very Oriental feel to me. If you were to make the corners on the house upswept, maybe ...?

That's a neat idea! Hmm... almost makes me want to do a new painting, though, perhaps with a mountain-scape instead of water.

I already commented on DA and since i am soo lazy i just paste that

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°

For the eye of my fantasy would be no need of a boat..
That may even look as a poor hut on a microscopic island from far , in the tricky red twilight lights

But no, that is not a island but the rich garden of a floating house, and under the blooming garden and the
flourishing tree are no rocks or the metal or wooden shell of a vessel, but the living floating Sponge
Are the vapours from her digestion to sustain .

As for the direction you may not care much about direction if you have already everything you need around , water, sun ,sea, fruit vegetables fish even honey and milk
More the Sponge naturally move following the most , most warm ,clean , vital flow tending to the best possible destination
( Sponge will never get close to dead or deadly water , you may trust your Sponge )

But you would never live in such a place without knowing how to friendly interact with the neural system of the Sponge , if not naturally in sync...
and so ,YES, you may even convince the Sponge to change destination :
it would be much more as to convince to yours beloved to modify the destination of honeymoon , not as giving order to a slave.

So yes may be done, as easily as you may convince your beloved to modify for the better the projects for the honeymoon
...almost same chances of success , and of possible possible emotive and sometimes very aggressive reactions that in case of Sponges may include sort of earthquakes and brief , but emotionally intensive immersion under the sea level, (far to be deadly but still a bit mean)

Oh yes somebody once tried to use brute force to force his Sponge
He was a old ,rich and rancorous men ,so stupid to make his request without even say once from the depth of his heart "please".
The fact is legendary , in the house was also a nice teen , a far young nephew there for a visit, he was smart and charming so he survived , the Reef took care to protect him even under water

The Sponge just went under water and from then only emerge a few hours here and then
The stupid rancorous old men quickly get drowned
Sponge and the nephew they are still floating under water , the original name of the boy will not say much to anyone and now is no more a boy , is getting older and older his childhood almost forgotten
, but you may have heard of his later adventures , his nick went famous, there were even novels and moviesabout the good old Captain Nemo
(novels not too respectful of the facts , especially regarding its metallic submarine, transfigured as a masterpiece of DIY.. but then were novels ).

anyway if you are nice with your Sponge she will never drawn you, that is only the most commune and moderate reaction to idiots that try to use brute force , but as far concern our folk around they seems all extinguished and in the most natural way

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...nice painting and atmosphere :paint :clap

As far from criticism... well most of the details i described are not too visible ;)
but ...well .... maybe went lost for that tricky twilight lights ....
