Hi there,
After the interesting discussion we had about the meaning of the G'MIC acronym, we've decided to change it for the next release. So now, "G'MIC" will mean "GREYC's Magic for Image Computing".

This is nice, but this makes the current logo obsolete :

The current logo is becoming quite old now, and I even don't have a high-resolution version of it, so I think this would be a good occasion to replace it by something new.
I was wondering if some of the great artists around there would be interested to contribute and to propose a new logo for the G'MIC project (Let me apologize first, it would be a non-paid work!).

We are really open to all kind of proposals, but maybe I can give you some (non-strict) guidelines :

- A logo that would be at the same time simple *and* stylish, with a good visual impact and recognizable at a glance.
- Something that could be integrated well to the current project web-page (maybe not too flashy colors for instance) : http://gmic.sourceforge.net, but also to flyers, presentation slides and so on..
So, the format (size and dimensions) is probably also important, to be sure we can use it in many situations.
- The signification of the acronym may appear or not (depending on the logo style).
- May we can use some elements of the Gmicky mascot inside, but this is not mandatory.

Well that's it. I know I'm requesting something really hard to do and I cannot offer so much to reward (except some thanks and putting your name in the G'MIC contributors list).

Maybe we can just modify the current logo, by removing the text on it. But if you have any ideas, please let me know !

Cheers,

David, in the name of the G'MIC development team.

Is the vector format mandatory ?
I could give it a go but I can't do vectors, only bitmap logos.

No, there are no problems proposing a bitmap creation.

One question about the logo design, what would be the most praised feature of G'MIC ?

How much time are you giving for the contest submissions, David?

P.S. The contenders must meet copyright compliance when using fonts.

Well, that's a good question K1TesseraEna. We are not so in a hurry, as the current stable version is already working quite well. If two or three weeks are enough, I would say 'two or three weeks' :)

OK, call it 3 weeks. The more time given, the more submissions taken ;) . I know ppl on GC are highly competitive.
To keep you guys away from possible legal issues, I would also suggest that the contestants provide font source and the license copy (usually distributed with fonts).
BTW, David, is G'MIC considered non-commercial project or something else?

Yes, G'MIC is a non commercial project, even distributed under an open-source licence (CeCILL, GPL-compatible).

Well, I've simply coded a G'MIC script to do it automatically :cofscreen
If you think this can be of interest for someone else, just tell me, I'll put this as
a new G'MIC filter (in 'Sequences / ').

Hello, yesterday I heard about for your search for new logo. I'm a graphic designer and I use many g'mic filters (specially anistropic smooth)

Where should I send the sketches, or can I post them in this thread?

Yes, the best is to post your proposal here, as anyone can give its opinion then.
Thanks a lot for considering participating for this logo submission!

Good to have some interest, looking forward to seeing people's ideas. I'd have a go myself if I thought I was even slightly capable!

OK, these is the first idea I had, using the star symbol as part of the letters, I tried to make something simple and easy to use as an icon, but it can be used for more elaborated stuff.

Very nice. I think I like the gold and brownish one the best cuz it has more height.

DaFeBa - those are all really nice and the simplfied icon could be used on the G'mic website as a favicon(I think thats what they are called.)
