Yes, I agree too, the top one is really good looking : It is stylish, simple enough (single color) to be used in many different places (web page, slides, flyers..). And the hat on the left could even be used alone as a recognizable icon (favicon for instance). Moreover, it is coherent with the mascot.
That's my personal favorite for now

PS : Should be "for Image Computing" instead of "Image Computing" though :hehe

Main logo made with Inkscape

[font=Tahoma]If the need be, a short (7-10 seconds) intro can be done in Blender.
Power button being pressed, lit and making a transition into logo.
Something like this.

But that would probably take days to accomplish and right now is irrelevant.
I'm posting this only to underline the concept of introducing GMIC as a powerful tool for image editing.

I don't know if anyone can use a palette of the current G"MIC web site colors. I'd made it already so it's attached below.

The first 10 colors are solid variants of the G'MIC web site palette, not including 255 255 255.
The last 6 colors are variations and complimentry colors I've added.
All colors are solid.

the first one is like hopscotch, which i think makes for a nice metaphor of playing with GIMP
the last one is even better, as it picks up the magic theme
looks like a wizards conjuring circle
