I guess that version of Photo Effects doesn't work with 2.6. Have you thought about upgrading to Gimp 2.8.4? It's much better, I think you will like it.

You may also have a duplicate script conflict. Give Test for Duplicate Scripts a try to check it out. Put it in your scripts folder, you'll find Test for Duplicate Scripts in the Gimp Help menu. Read over the Test for Duplicate Scripts thread if you have any problems.

I have tried out 2.8 but i don't like the interface on it. So, that is why i use 2.6.11. I really do appreciate everyone trying to help me here. Are there any other photo effects that will work on 2.6?

You can run Gimp 2.8x not in Single-Window mode and it's much like 2.6x.
Anyway, you should upgrade to at least GIMP (version 2.6.12).
Also run Test for Duplicate Scripts v1.8, it works on Gimp 2.6 as well.

Let's take a step backwards here as I'm concerned about the error message you've reported:

Quote:
'C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\scripts\photoeffect\photoeffect\ev_iccii_photoeffects_2_8.scm'

It's the word VirtualStore that sets alarm bells ringing.

I think you've tried to install them in the C:\Program Files (x86)\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\scripts\ folder BUT Windows 7 will not allow you to and instead puts them into the virtual store (Google Windows 7 Virtual store to get more details). This causes much confusion as Windows explorer will show them where you think you've put them, but applications wont be able to find them there.

You should install them into your personal folders instead:
C:\Users\YourName\.gimp-2.6\scripts

This may be well the point
I had advice in my first message to NOT use that gimp folder in Program Files but the other in Users where are no similar lock

as Paynekj said most of times changes to the files inside Program Files are locked, it will seems as if files were really moved , but in reality are not, force Windows to accept similar change is less simple of what may be expected and may be done only logging in the computer as admin, but that is not sufficient

But log as admin is not sufficent, if you try even as admin Windows security will think to a command from a idiotic admin , so idiotic that as to be soothed giving him the illusion that his command are accepted, but no any of similar command are executed

If you try to placed whatever there , anywhere inside Program Files , and you do NOT see a warning , requiring to confirm the command as admin, then the command was simply silently ignored.

And even if would be accepted by Windows, then good chances that your Antivirus will activate to block silently the changes

But again i indicate the right place where move the script in my first message, and i clearly advice about to NOT try to use the gimp folder in Program Files (Program Files and Program Files(x86)

If you want solve you should move that file in C : Users/Your Name/ .gimp/scripts ...obviously in that path "Your Name" must be replaced by your login name in your computer

PS the same should be happened with the gimpressionist preset , they go in C :Users/YourName/gimp/gimpressionist NOT somewhere inside C:Program Files/gimp or will be same problem

The program files are the only way I can install programs, scripts and plugins.
Once again, I will re-iterate with what i did.
1. Download
2. Opened up the Gateway (C:) Drive
3. Clicked on the Program Files (x86)
4. I scroll down to the gimp 2.0 folder.
5. I click on share, gimp, 2.0 and scripts.
6. Place the file in the scripts folder
7. I upzip the file
8. I move the whole folder Presets to Preset Folder in gimpressionist.
9. I open up gimp. I see no image effects.
10. so I clicked on the image file and opened it up with gimp..I got this unknown file type message.
This is why, I do not see the image effects in the menu options.
