I'm happy to announce the final release of the 1.5.5.0 package of the G'MIC image processing framework !
Thanks again to all contributors who made this possible !

PS : We are preparing a little surprise for the next stable release ;)
PS2 : Binaries are under construction. Linux version has been already built. Win32 version is on the way. The availability of other binaries depends on the goodwill of the packagers ;)

Here is the Changelog for this version :

New features:

- The G'MIC project has a new acronym "GREYC's Magic for Image Computing", as well as a new logo, designed by Chris.F :
Image
- Command '-blend' : Added new blending modes 'add','linearburn','substract','linearlight','pinlight','hardmix','red','green','blue','shapeaverage', 'shapeaverage0', 'softdodge', 'softburn' and 'vividlight' [backported to 1.5.2.0+].
- Wiki pages have been opened, at sourceforge.net/p/gmic/wiki/Home/. Contributors are wanted to fill these pages ! :)
- Update to latest OpenCV API for command '-camera'. Now you can request for a specific resolution for the camera capture (Thanks to Antonio Albiol for this feature !).
- New command '-alert' to allow G'MIC display an alert box, like this :
test_alert :
-alert "Poll",\
"Which image processing framework do you like best ?\nOnly one answer is permitted !",\
"ImageMagick",\
"GraphicsMagick",\
"G'MIC",\
"OpenCV"

Image
- New filter 'Colors / Freaky details' in the G'MIC plug-in, to sharpen image details and create vivid colors [backported to 1.5.2.0+].
Image
- New command '-volume3d' to transform a 3d volumetric image as a 3d parallelepipedic vector object :
Image

Changes:

- Command '-richardson_lucy' has been renamed to '-deblur', as the implemented method was *not* the one from Richardson-Lucy, as Jérome B. pointed out to me.
- Slight improvements of the debug messages, when using command '-debug'.
- When trying to read a .pdf file as an image (using external call to 'convert'), the image resolution is now better.
- Various optimizations of some native and custom commands have been done.

Bug fixes:

- Fixed regression in 1.5.4.0 : saving animated gif was not working anymore.
- Fixed regression in 1.5.4.0 : command '-gimp_list_filters' was not working anymore.
- Fixed bug in -type' command which was preventing things like this working as expected : gmic -repeat 2 -type short -type float -done (Thanks to Jerome B. for having noticed this!).
- Fixed bug in '-polygon'. Particular cases of complex polygons were not displaying correctly.
- Fixed bug in PPM loader. PPM files generated by some tools by SONY were not readable.
- Added additional memory checking to avoid segfault when incorrectly dealing with shared images.

The Win64 version has not been updated yet, and still is the 1.5.4.0.

I'm curious to know what this is, but then it's no longer a surprise :(

What I can say is this will be a new feature, something really useful, I mean, not a strip-tease video of the main developer :coolguy :flirt

You are a big tease David. Personally, I hope you figured out a way to speed up Circlism. lol

Will wait til the 64-bit version is released (and hopefully samj or whoever is the current person supporting this does so soon). Going to have to hit the sack soon though for my weekend gig but I can wait. Thanks again for the heads up and continued support of the best thing since sliced bread for GIMP. :)

Warning: Newbie - Post.

Post of bit bugged newbie, because I'm loosing patience over this thing.

So ... I wanted to try G'MIC today for the first time.

Im using Mac OS X 10.6.8. Snow Leopard and GIMP Version 2.8.0

Downloaded: gmic_1.5.5.0.tar.gz (1.7 MB)

I looked anywhere. Everywhere. Reading in different Forums for hours now. It doesn't work.

The main problem is, that I seem to be unable to finde the ... well, plugin. Something, that is supposed to be named "gmic_gimp" ... its not there. There are text documents and png pictures and xml files. That is it.

Is that right? Should it look like that? Did I miss something?

I am not a MAC user, but I think that you need to download the version for the MAC. The only one I saw was at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gmic/fi ... g/download

You will probably need the version specifically for Mac OSX Leopard which I don't think is ready yet for 1.5.5.0 (it's made by third party packager, possibly samj). You could either use a slightly older version from the "old" folder on sourceforge downloads, or wait for the Leopard version to be made. Sorry to hear you've had such a struggle :(

Oh. Yes. You're absolutely right. I downloaded the wrong version. Now I'm a bit embarrassed ...
Well. Okay. Found the 1.5.2.0 Version for Snow Leopard.
I tried Mountain Lion and Leopard first, but both wont show in GIMP. At least I can see the gmic_gimp file now, but I still don't get it working. Snow Leopard included. (And the file there is just called 'gmic' ) It just wont show in the filters.
But at least I'm one step closer to my goal. ;) Thanks a lot for that!

Would you mind telling me, if you know whether this, my 'new' problem, was solved in any of the threads? Maybe I overlooked that too.

There is a G'MIC Mac file,
Macgmic_1.5.5.0_macosx_MountainLion
It's at G'MIC Sourceforge.

There are some threads mentioning Mac versions, here is one:

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=691&p=9812&hilit=+mac+leopard+gmic#p9812

And there is some advice:

Put it here: UserName/Library/Application Support/Gimp/plugins
The plug-in itself is a grey folder called gmic_gimp

But not being a Mac user I can't be sure this will work. I've updated the G'MIC wiki FAQ page a little but I'm hoping somebody with Mac experience will either update it or explain installation so I can update it!

http://sourceforge.net/p/gmic/wiki/FAQ/

*edit* I've found some other stuff on the old flickr forum about it so I'll read through and add to the FAQ.

The binaries for the plug-in and the command line tools are now available for Win64 architectures. We can thank Samj for her patience. I don't count the number of versions she has compiled for Windows, but this is an impressive number for sure.
:hugme

Indeed, now I can try it out :D
Updated the FAQ with some instructions for Mac OS X 10.6.7
It seems mac installation in general can be tricky, there is conflicting info and different instructions for different versions. I'll try and pick out what I think's right but we could really do with a Mac expert since I could easily be getting it wrong!

Success! Thank you all!

I downloaded every Version available for Snow Leopard, put them into the plug-ins Folder and re-started gimp with opening a new picture. Version 1.5.1.9 is finally working.
I still don't know why the others wont show, but I've got it. It's not the latest one, but that will do perfect for starters. Maybe I will try to update it, but for now I'm just glad I finally got it. :)

Thanks again. And I must say you a very nice here and very helpful. It's great, I'm glad I asked.

That's a bit annoying, since version 1.5.1.9 has no filters updates anymore.
I wouldn't stick with this version if I had a way to install something more recent, I must say :)

At least it's working I guess! I think this has highlighted a gap in the documentation so I'll try to put together all I can find. Can you possibly tell me which version of Gimp you are using? From what I've read there are multiple packages for the same version (GimponOSX, native gimp, partha build, lisanet...) and to be honest I'm pretty confused myself :?

@Ronounours: I know, I'm not entirely happy myself. But like I said, I'm just glad I've got this version working. I don't want to spoil it by making any more experiments. At least not today.

@garagecoder: Sure.

Gimp version 2.8.0p1 (running with XQuartz 2.7.4) -> from lisanet.

I've just managed to update my Mountain Lion installation using the link in Odinbc's post above.

I'm using the Lisanet.de 2.8.2 build of Gimp.
In finder, I went to Applications > Gimp, then right-clicked & selected 'view package contents'
Then I navigated to Contents > Resources > Lib > Gimp > 2.0 > Plug-ins
Then I copied the file gmic_gimp from the disk image I downloaded from Odinbc's link into the Plug-ins folder, replacing the file that was there.

If the Plug-ins folder is in a different place on your installation, you can find where it is by selecting 'Preferences > Folders > Plug-ins' in Gimp.

Great thanks, I'll add that to the FAQ as well
