GIMP Version: 2.6.11
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: XP - SP3
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

I just installed Gimp 2.8 and I want to edit a logo that came with a theme I bought. I like the logo style and want to edit the existing logo.

How do I change the wording only?

Can anyone give me a step by step on how to do it? Any help would be appreciated. I am new and just need a little direction.

Thanks in advance.

For starters you need to use one or more of the Selection Tools to separate the text from the background.

This tutorial may help, Resynthesizer/Heal Selection for "Content Aware Fill" in GIMP.

We would also have to see the logo in order to tell or show you the best way to do this. Is the text on a white backgound?

Since I am new I can't post a link on here and appear "spammy". It is on Themeforest and the theme is called:
Mingle - Multi-purpose WordPress Theme. I don't have much experience with PS, so talking in "code" will only confuse me. If you are experienced, please understand I am a beginner.

@Odinkbc - Thank you for the tutorial. I can't say it answered my question directly, but I appreciate the articles. I have no experience and I will figure it out myself.

@Sunnnee:
is this the logo you are talking about ?
http://www.octocs.net/wp-content/upload ... -it-up.png

And if so, you want to change the text 'Mingle' into something else ?

@Esper - Yes, that is the logo I want to change. All I want to do is:

- Learn how to change the "text" Mingle - Mix it Up! into my own company name. I have my own logo on it now and it just doesn't fit the theme. I don't mind the circle character next to it, but I want to just change the text.

I would like to stay consistent with the theme itself, but I am just not PS or GIMP savvy.

The logo for Mingle is created with “Lane – Narrow“. Not sure what that means.

If its too much to ask, I understand.

im still not 100% sure i understand you...
so bare with me if i got you wrong

you cant change the picture i linked to
it seems to me, what you want is the font
i mean, if all you want to do is type your company name in exactly the font, the word "Mingle" is written, then all you have to do, is find the font
which can be difficult or expensive, because not all fonts are free

EDIT: ah okay, you know the name
my google-fu turns up this link:
http://www.fonts101.com/fonts/view/Stan ... ne__Narrow

so it is a free font
well download it, install it to your computer and then make a logo from it

@Esper

Maybe I am not clear and maybe I am, so let me explain this again:

1. I bought a theme off themeforest (dot)net: MINGLE (as demonstrated by the previous reply before you - see url)
2. I downloaded the theme and in it, is the Logo PSD for MINGLE - Mix it Up!
3. I want to "edit" the word "Mingle" and change it to my blog name. MINGLE >>> Blog
4. When I open up the Gimp program, then open up the Logo PSD for MINGLE, how do I edit the word MINGLE?

Sorry, a bit frustrated at this point.

Thanks for your reply. All I want to do is "edit" the word in the original logo from the theme. A previous reply from another user placed the url in his or her reply.

Theme is called: Mingle from Themeforest (dot) net if that helps.

I get the impression that he wants to change the word Mingle to the name of his blog. If the design isn't in layers, then all you have to do is cover up the Mingle with white and put new text over it. But if you purchase a design template, seems to me there should be a better way to change text.

That's correct, but it didn't tell me exactly how to do it.

thats exactly why i said sunnee needs the font

sunneee, i think you have a misconception how image manipulation programs work

this is not like a textdocument, that you open with word or openoffice or any other suitable program and then edit

imagemanipulation is done with layers
these layers can be saved as a project in photoshop as a psd file and in Gimp as an xcf-file

but for a logo, you have to merge down these layers and then save as a .jpg or a .png or a .gif

so my advice is, get the font i already linked to in a previous post and install it into Gimp
type your text on a background the same colour as you website and then merge them together, save as a png and upload to your site
and then you have your logo

Thanks Esper. Finally something step by step. I appreciate the information. I will try and make it work.
