I like looking at older documentation.
The method for this madness is sometimes I like the older versions wording or it's more complete or more lucid, etc.
The examples and screen captures are fun to checkout as well.

The official Gimp Documentation (2.2 - 2.8)
Image GIMP 2.8 User Manual (gimp-en.pdf 30MB, gimp-it.pdf 37MB)

My old favorite.

Odin thanks for the link to Grokking the Gimp as it's a document I've always wanted

I enjoyed "leafing" through those two manuals for v1.0.1. My first version of gimp was 1.2.

Grokking the Gimp has long been a favorite reference of mine. I just stand amazed at what it contains.

Thank you!

I have the GIMP Pocket reference. It covers GIMP 1.2:

That's cool Kevin, I haven't seen this O'Reilly guide before; it looks like it's in great shape too! I have (somewhere), Sams Teach Yourself GIMP in 24 Hours from around that version.

It's interesting to see how the original GIMP 1.x documentation makes direct comparisons with Photoshop and explains in detail the differences and why GIMP is better. The devs have changed their approach since then -- these days the competition with PS is a lot more toned down - at least officiaily.

I used GIMP 1.0 back in the day and was not impressed at all - My Amiga's Deluxe Paint V was so much better at the time (to me). I didn't look back at GIMP until 2.0 at which time it had improved considerably and I found it great to use. And here we are. ;)

Thanks for the flashback, Odinbc!

The current official Gimp Documentation.
GIMP 2.2 - GIMP 2.6

These two are definitely worth a look.
The Gimp User’s Manual (PDF) (v1.0.1)
Gimp: Color Section (PDF) (v1.01)

My old favorite.

Thanks so much! I was able to open everything but the 2 links you attached for the PDF's under your "These Two are Definitely Worth a Look" comment. I get "The requested URL /users/manuals/gimp/GimpUsersManual_1.01_Color.pdf was not found on this server."
