I think here many have much more Ram then my 2GB
And i am curious to know if with more RAM this filter is usable :
with my 2GB and a 1025x680 pic took more then 1 minut for the preview and about 6 to render:
far too slow

But...with more then 2GB ram what happens ?

Here the filter

I have 2gb ram and it loads very quickly to full sized. No problems.

Cool filter. Will it be available for g'mic soon?

It works fine on my laptop with 2 gig of RAM.

It is, indeed, a "KOOL" filter. :)

Perhaps it's your internet connection that's slow.

what the relation with my internet connection ?
On my PC i had to wait 1 minute just for the preview of the filter, and if i click ok, more then 6 to get the result

Anyway i am very happy that is only me to have this problem, tomorrow i have to send the notebook to repair and i may ask to check also for this

and i am so glad to have finished my trittic of graphic filters for Special FX:
the 2 Graphic Boost and this Kool Draft that was my first project (first but the harder to realize)

Santa told me that at the very best i may hope in some sweet and a bottle of good wine

From when he broke his secret love story with his best sponsor, Robin Hood the quality of his presents is dramatically decreased
(you will not believe to the fairy tales of elfs manifacturing presents in a North Pole Factory ,i hope:
Elfs hate North Pole because has no forests, and hate even work in a Factory they would never accept,
all presents come from sponsor as Robin Hood, with some occasional contribution from Arsenio Lupin and Fantomas )

Now correct me if I wrong but what PhotoComix is asking is if you try his filter in G'MIC, does it take a long time to apply the filter? Whereas everyone seems to be answering that it doesn't take very long to look at the pictures on Flickr. (Why isn't there a puzzled emoticon?)

So a question to PhotoComix: What would I do with the code you've posted to try it in G'MIC?

You got it right, i want know about the filter preview and rendering time, not about the pictures

Supposing you use linux and you have Gmic ,( here i mean the gimp plugin not the command line )installed you just have to copy the code on a new file, and save the file in your home directory with the name .gmic (just" .gmic" with the dot before the name...NOT "something.gmic"..simply .gimp)

and if in future you want try or add other filters you may just paste them on the same file below the first

@Kevin: what OS are you using? If Windows, you need to create (via Notepad++ or as Administrator in Notepad) a .gmic file and it should reside the same place as your .gmic_def.1452 (most likely your Users/Appdata folder) and home/user folder in Linux.

Read here:
http://zonderr.wordpress.com/2010/11/13 ... rst_filter

and here:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/gmic/discu ... 5497804520

HTH

And my preview works quickly and views fine, and when the preset is applied it takes about 45 secs to render (not 6 minutes like it does for PC).

I watched the second hand on my clock when I clicked the OK button. It took somewhere between 4 and 5 seconds. It's not an especially large image though.

Here's a larger image. Not posting it.
Original image 2180x1608px, 2.6mb., here.

That one took 1 minute plus a few seconds.

My processor is Intel 2.66GHtz. 2 Duo CPU

@PC,
Gave your script a test. I'm using 64-bit Linux with 2GB RAM. Image size is 1024x768. 6 seconds to load the preview, 43 seconds to output a new layer with default settings (I counted in my head, so it may be off by a second or two at most). The original image is the same one I used as the original in my recent post on page 2 of your Graphics Boost thread (a fractal). That's a very interesting effect; I like that!

Edit: I know you probably know this, but do you have other things running in the background using resources?

I'm waiting for PC to submit a test photo so we can re-do the testing, everyone using the same picture, and providing more data about your OS, RAM, and CPU strength (single, dual, or quad core). It's the only way to add any relevance to our testing of this filter.

I might add, if you do plan to test the images, do so without having any other apps or pictures open that could be taxing on GIMP's resources.
