Right clicking on the title bar of a window and selecting "always on top" works for me.

I use gedit a LOT and it's so exasperating when I'm copying/pasting and I have to fish it up from the task bar each time I want to paste something into it.

I never thought of making it always on top while I'm doing that. It's much more efficient that way.

I'm glad you asked that question, PhotoComix. :bigthup

If you don't have Linux, this is the one I use a lot when I have several windows open.

No but i did a lot to diffuse it
For years was the only way to use gimp in windows without freaking out hunting vanishing windows
and is so handy for much other task

there are much more program to keep on top.. but who wish read dozens of pages of manual just to understand how
the cursed x program may be used to pin a window in place ?

that is so simple to be genial...no need of manuals to learn how use a pin even if is a virtual one

Hi All,
First of all best wishes for 2011.
Maybe a little late reply:
I use KDE-4.5.4 and it allows me to have as many virtual desktops as I want.
In Systemsettings you can set shortcut keys to go from one to the other.
My eyesight is not so good so I like to have every window full screen.
With ctrl-tab I can browse the desktops.
The image is a screen shot of the relevant systemsettings page.
I'm sure it doesn't matter what distro you use.
Gerard.

I'm with you gerard. Once I found out about the desktops I really started using them. I have a few programs that I start and shuffle off to another desktop so they can do their thing without cluttering up my primary desktop. When I want to check on them it's easy to flip over.
