Well almost :lol
I know a few of us here have purchased the software Flame Painter.
Forever i have been trying to mimic this software in Gimp.Well i guess it all boils down to the typeface right?
I couldn't build a brush that would produce this.
Image

Font is called Shite

XCF is attached but all you need to do is
Create the type
Alpha to select it
Fill with the gradient full color spectrum (left to right)
Duplicate this layer 3 times
Top layer = 20 gaus blur
next layer under = 15 gaus blur
next layer under = 10 gaus blur
The original stays unblurred.
Thats pretty much it - enjoy! :)

I tried to download Shite and I kept getting shite.exe which is not usable in Linux.

Found this website where you could download the font without exe in it.

Link removed. It doesn't work properly anymore. I was lucky I got the font.

Found another link. It downloads as a zip file.

That's strange. The url I got the Shite font from no longer just downloads the font. It has an exe file. I've zipped the font and attached it.

Okay now someone make a brush that can do this with gradient dynamics. :)

Bristles-01 (64x64) is pretty close.

And smaller

here's my attempt: ek22-style hair brush, gradient paint brush dynamics, a gradient called "hippie blanket" and the g'mic rodilius filter.
Image

and this was too fun to just stop playing with, so here's another one - same basics, but different settings (i used layer modes and moved some of the rodilius sliders about a bit) and some of jayprich's specular bumps added as highlights.
