I have always been fascinated with the opal and its several variants. I think it's one of the most beautiful and eccentric gemstones in the world, and the image you posted, fluffybunny, nicely depicts the famous harlequin pattern.

If I remember correctly, the opal should represent the national gemstone of the Australia, is that right?

I just magnified it in Image Viewer and I can see the whole border of parrots. Very nice.

fluffybunny: i recognize those parrots! you've been very creative with those, here they made a very pretty bezel around the opal. the opal is good too, looks very much like the stones i almost bought from a stone merchant a couple of years ago. they were a bit too expensive for me, though, so i gave up the thought and bought one of the less perfect opals instead.
