this is a sort of remake in black and white of a collage that was originally in blue tones and posted to a contest on polyvore.com, the theme of the contest was something like "tribute to a favourite singer" or something and billie holiday is one of my four hundred or so favourite singers, so i made a collage with her and blue seemed to fit the theme, so it was all in blue shades. it was lovely but i lost the original when my external hard drive crashed and when i decided to remake it i wanted to make it markedly different since there is no way of making it completely similar - so this is all in black and white. the layout is the same, though, and i used a photo of a real gardenia in the original as well. the picture is huge, and i downscaled it for gc - that brought some ugly jagged edges that aren't there in the full size version.

edit: i used photo comix downscale neat filter in g'mic and that helped a lot. i got it down to a much smaller size and still looking good before i posted.

very nice AnMal. Glad it has compensated. Would be devastating to lose something you treasure.

That's a very nice composition AnMal. I've been known to have moments of Billie Holiday blues listening needs.

Nice job, Anmal, as usual!
I hope black to white color palette is a conscious artistic choice, not a reflection of your recent melancholy.
You really made that flowers stand out! Nice!

sallyanne: thanks - there was much on that hard drive that can't be replaced or compensated for, so it was nice when to see i could at least make a new version of one picture that i was just as happy with as the old one. it gives me a bit of new inspiration.
ek22: thank you! when i celebrated my birthday i let my guests add songs to the party playlist every time they went up to get food or drink. turned out most of them added billie holiday songs, even if we were a rather mixed crowd.
k1tesseraena: thank you :)! i wish i could say it was an artistic choice, full stop, but the fact is i have to kick myself to use my usual colours right now. i know using too much greyscale and too many dark colours will only feed the mood i'm in, so i try to keep it within limits and i'm sure everything will be shocking pink, orange, bright green and purple again soon :).
wallace: don't blame poor molly for this, i take full responsibility for it :hehe
lylejk: thank you!

First off, I kinda like this side of you. And secondly, you can always try your hand at BW with selective coloring. One bright spot in a bunch of greyscale often has more impact than a sea of colors. Even though your color comps are very lively and I don't want to detract from them at all here.

I love the look of a real object in a 'vector type' pic.

2-ton: thank you! i like that effect myself. funny, i've never thought of it, but it does look rather "vectory" :). this is the style of many of my collages, i just cut the textures and patterns as if they were paper and then i add objects i think fit in, the mix of styles is what makes the style and i like that.
wallace: i can forgive you - we'll just have to see about molly!
